Areas of clinical interest include dementia, seizure disorders, stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, ADHD, and learning disorders.
As a clinical neuropsychologist, it is my goal to understand the relationship between the brain and cognitive/behavioral functioning. I work with patients with a variety of neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders to help with diagnostic clarification based on the findings of a comprehensive evaluation. The evaluation incorporates information gathered from a clinical interview with the patient (and at times an accompanying family member), responses on emotional/behavioral questionnaires, and performance on standardized cognitive measures.

Welcome! As a mental health counselor, I understand the difficulties of taking the first step to seek treatment. Individuals may feel strange talking about aspects of their life they have yet to view and/or process. Our sessions will serve as a safe and judgment-free environment to explore past experiences, current behaviors, and difficulties processing trauma. You will be provided with the ability to explore difficulties in your life and be provided with as much structure as needed to build on skills and make changes. I work to hear the client and ensure interventions are helpful to support growth.

Life is a journey. Too often, though, we find ourselves adrift, feeling alone, scared, and without a map to navigate. I believe that therapy provides a trusting, compassionate, and facilitative relationship for moving through life's uncertain waters. My goal is to help you feel more in control of your life by gaining insights into patterns and relationships that may hold you back, and to develop practical skills for coping with life's inevitable challenges. I believe that, together, we can help you realize your potential, feel more connected to others, and set your own course on your journey.

I believe that therapy gives us the opportunity to express ourselves to the fullest extent without fear of judgment or retaliation. My background in mental health and social justice grounds my practice in anti-oppressive frameworks. I particularly love working with people living with disability/ TBI , medical and complex trauma, neurodiversity, and sexuality and gender identity formation. I am also passionate about supporting folks through non-monogamous relationships, racial identity development and internalized misogyny.

I uniquely specialize in concussion/ TBI recovery, helping clients with new or old head injuries navigate the significant or subtle changes that occur post-injury.
As a therapist, I offer a warm space for collaboration. Let's explore what matters to you, and navigate the experiences that have shaped your current world. I believe that our views of ourselves/others are often negatively shaped by our environments, such as a toxic family member or pattern of failure/loss. I'd like to help you let go of negative beliefs and emotions you've held on to over the years, and make room for others that help you more effectively make movement toward your goals. I am dual-licensed in NY and IN and can serve individuals in either state virtually!

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Therapists

When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.

What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilization, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counseling.

How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?

The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.

What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?

If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
