Sometimes life's challenges, transitions, or conditions are more than we can handle. Feelings of sadness or fear overwhelm. We realize that the way we are living is not how we want to live but are unable to make changes on our own. Unhealthy relationships, dealing with disappointment or loss, feeling alone, or struggling with an inner critic, are a few examples of what leads people to reach out to me. In my practice I largely employ the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model as my framework but also draw techniques from CBT, EMDR, DBT, mindfulness, somatic experiencing, and psychodynamic psychotherapy, when needed.

My approach to this practice is eclectic, incorporating various therapeutic interventions such as CBT, experiential, mindfulness, and somatic therapy.
Every individual deserves a safe space to be seen honestly, heard deeply, and where their whole self is fully welcomed. I am a mental health counseling intern who is passionate about providing a warm, inviting, and safe space for all individuals to be curious and explore their challenges and emotional distress. I work with children, teens, and adults, supporting them on their meaningful journey to self-discovery and healing. Recognizing that therapy can feel intimidating, I utilize my background in theatre to bring humility, creativity, and authenticity to the therapeutic experience.

I am a Gestalt therapist with training in somatic psychotherapy, mindfulness and meditation.
I help adoptees, people living with trauma and people suffering with anxiety and panic move towards the life and relationships they want. I work with issues of identity, connection, belonging, and how trauma is held in the body, the way the body keeps the score. My goal is to help you find both symptom relief and deeper change. I also work with my associate Asha Kadir who works with all kinds of mental health issues, and particularly loves working with young adults, international students, immigrants and refugees. Intersectionality is important in our practice.

I am certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and in Somatic Experiencing, which is a body-based trauma therapy.
My practice centers on helping people live everyday more fully. Daily pressures to manage work, relationships, and ourselves often leave us feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. Some people express these feelings through anxiety or persistent self-critical thoughts. Others may feel discouraged, guilty, ashamed or sad. Many use substances, food, risky behavior or other distractions to momentarily feel better. Psychotherapy can help resolve these issues by creating a space to gain better coping strategies, enhance your focus of your place in the world, and develop greater resiliency.

As a therapist, I integrate traditional therapeutic approaches with somatic -based, principles and practices that allow your truest essence to emerge and live a fuller, brighter and more abundant life.
Do you have a feeling that “something” is missing from your life and you can’t quite figure out what it is? Are you moving through each day with ruminating thoughts, fears, and feeling isolated even though you may be surrounded by people? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, there is an emotional block holding you back. The main blocks to living a full life are: fear, anger, grief, and shame. These blocks are unburdened wounds that need to be revealed and shared in order to live more fully. Together, we can chart the roadmap to unburden these wounds and get you on the path that you’ve been waiting for.

As an integrative psychologist, my approach draws upon cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, somatic and holistic modalities.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, trauma and relationship difficulties. I have helped clients get through intense periods of sadness, self-doubt and major life transitions. Therapy has been used to explore and understand feelings particularly as they come up in the moment. It also encourages individuals to reflect on their behaviors, look at how their past influences the way they perceive and experience their lives and make choices that are in line with their needs.

Recently, I have focused on trauma and included body centered modalities: Somatic Experiencing and SensoriMotor psychotherapy.
As your therapist, I will treat you with respect and empathy. I am active, supportive and nonjudgmental. People experience me as warm, easy to talk to, and responsive with a good sense of humor. I treat individuals and couples especially those seeking help with overcoming childhood trauma, ACOA, depression, anxiety, low elf esteem, problems related to aging and LGBTQ issues. I enjoy being part of a relationship in which there is growth and healing. I have grown a lot both as patient and therapist. I have also taught at several institutes and offer supervision in relational psychodynamic psychotherapy.

I trained at NYU and Columbia, with post-grad study in Relational, Psychodynamic, Psychoanalytic therapies, and Somatic Experiencing, a body-based, mindful trauma modality.
I see psychotherapy as a creative, collaborative and compassionate practice that helps us make meaning of our lives, deepens our self-awareness, and fosters emotional growth and lasting positive change. I strive to create a space of safety and potential where we can work together to help you tell your story in all of its complexity; understand the impact of the past on the present; imagine possible futures; explore dreams, their meanings and messages; to find greater satisfaction, connection and authentic engagement in your everyday life, your work, your creative pursuits, your intimate and family relationships and friendships.

I use Psychodynamic Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as somatic approaches to help clients achieve their optimum well being.
Recognizing that taking the first steps towards seeking help can be frightening, I bring a warm and compassionate presence to help create a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to feel comfortable sharing their concerns. I use a versatile and relational style to ensure clients feel heard, seen and understood. In my therapeutic work, I believe it is important to consider how political influences, societal narratives, intergenerational and genetic predispositions are interwoven to shape one’s emotional being.

I provide an integrative individual counseling service. I am interested in supporting clients to make healthy changes and growths in their lives through deepening their awareness of themselves and the world around them. Through this unique therapy relationship we will address current and past concerns from a Gestalt model. We will work together through problems in the here and now, including mindfulness, somatic awareness, meditations, laughter, parts work, and stress reduction practices. I also believe in empowerment in therapy and I believe that the greatest source of healing already exists in each of us as human beings.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
