I spent 17 years working for investment banks from a junior analyst to a Managing Director. Prior to my finance career, I got an undergraduate degree in psychology and spent a year working in the acute care unit of a psychiatric hospital. Since returning to the field of mental health, I've earned a masters degree to become a therapist while working at a family counseling center and at a high school. My clinical experience and 3.94 GPA has taught me that the modality implemented is less important than finding a therapist who is intelligent, fully present, carries little baggage, and has real life experience.

Anxiety, depression, relationship problems and stressful life transitions often trigger the desire to seek help from a psychotherapist. It is my role to create an atmosphere of trust and safety conducive to the telling of your story and challenges and then exploring new ways of working on these. I like to introduce different ways of thinking about a problem to open up various possibilities and solutions. Together, we work to move you closer to your goals.

I completed my Master's Degree in Social Work from New York University, am a New York City based, State Licensed Clinical Social Worker (both isn NYS and NJ), and have a certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the NYFS/CFS Institute.
Anxieties, insecurity, depression, difficult patterns in relationships or work, and problems maintaining focus can be understood and changed, so you have more energy and confidence to devote to living. Become more connected to yourself and others through a specialized process of exploration with a trained professional, and see a difference in your life. A therapist's expertise and experience are very important, but the key ingredient of effective therapy is a "good fit" between you and your therapist. If you'd like to see how it would be to work together, I would be pleased to hear from you.

Beginning therapy is a big deal. Talking about oneself to someone you’ve never met before can be daunting. Will you be judged? Given advice you didn’t ask for? Not given feedback you really need? You’ve probably been grappling with the issues that prompted you to make the appointment for some time, and may feel badly that you couldn’t figure it out yourself. In that first session I’ll be listening to understand what’s the matter but also how you’re experiencing the problem. We may need to work together to shift self-criticism and judgment to curiosity and compassion so that you can mobilize your inner strengths.

I also trained extensively at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.
Speaking openly in therapy with a well-trained, attuned, nonjudgemental listener facilitates new and deeper understanding. This leads to working through past and present experiences and opens pathways to achieving more happiness, fulfillment and joy. Therapy is a method to help a person come to know and understand oneself better and to initiate real change through addressing what feels stuck, difficult, painful or unsatisfying. Through insight and felt experience in treatment, people can reduce anxious and depressed feelings and experience more connection and success in their lives.

Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in life and we just cannot figure it out-"what am I doing wrong?... Why do I end up in the same place over and over ?..." Mistaken beliefs about yourself as well as ingrained patterns of feeling and thinking impact your self esteem, relationships and work life. Sometimes trauma ,that occurs during the formative years of childhood ,can result in persistent fear, worry ,and depression . Substances, food , sex, money and work can be misused in attempts to find relief from the unrelenting emotional pain or numbness that untreated traumas create.Trauma therapies are designed to help with these struggles

I firmly believe that we as human beings grow in relationships as an empathic and attuned other bears witness to our struggles; my role is to provide a safe environment and a skilled ear in which you are able to become better acquainted with yourself: your thinking, behavior, and feelings so that you can ultimately live a more fulfilled life. For some this means a few months of work and for others a few years.

When it comes to dating and relationships, strong feelings don’t always predict long-term compatibility. You may feel strong chemistry that doesn’t translate into stability, or lose interest in someone who seems objectively right. Others feel confused about desire, attachment patterns, identity questions, or recurring emotional dynamics. Many people are surprised to discover that attraction, fantasy, and compatibility do not always develop together. I work with adults navigating dating uncertainty and relationship decision-making. Many clients feel relief discovering that there is a coherent framework for understanding experience

Psychoanalytic therapy can often appear old fashioned today.
Speech addressed to an other offers a chance to put what perhaps never been spoken about before, or was too painful to utter out loud, into words. The effects can be surprising: things which cause us to suffer, can also be bound up with our most intimate desires and unexpected laughter.

Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or questions about identity, including regarding sexuality and spirituality. Others come to therapy feeling stuck in painful relationship patterns or struggling with dating, intimacy, or sexual shame. Some are also seeking support around painful sex, including vaginismus, or exploring alternative romantic or sexual lifestyles. In therapy, we will explore how early experiences, attachment patterns, and internal conflicts shape present-day emotions and relationships, and we work to develop more authentic and fulfilling ways of relating to yourself and others.

Sometimes we arrive at a place in our lives where we feel that we are continually pulling on the ends of a knot. Instead of untangling, the knot becomes tighter. In a safe space designed to encourage reflection, we will unpack current difficulties and long-standing issues in the context of past experiences. All of us are impacted by our upbringing, and if we can begin to understand these experiences and how they affect the roles we play in the world, then we are at an undeniable advantage for improving our well-being.

Working with individuals, families, children and teens for the past 20 years, I have come to learn that we all want to be understood so that we may live healthier, more productive lives. Often times however, conflicts and repetitive behaviors prevent us from finding the satisfaction we desire. Depression, anxiety, and a host of other self defeating conditions or behaviors can emerge that interfere with basic relationship success and can cause work, or school related difficulties. My approach is to work closely with you through any issues, in an atmosphere of acceptance and support, designed to address your individual needs.
