Lesbian , bisexual, gay, straight, queer, questioning, pansexual, asexual, trans, transgender, transsexual, nonbinary, genderqueer, gender nonconforming, detransitioner, kinky, BDSM, sex worker, vanilla, monogamous, single, polyamorous, even unicorn – let's improve your life.
We can all live rewarding, empowered lives. As someone with multiple intersecting identities, I understand the horrific effects of trauma, stigma, and mental/emotional health. I seek to establish a comfortable environment in which we can safely ask questions to help you make empowered decisions while we simultaneously investigate questions of meaning. I never require a client ‘prove’ their identity to me.

I have extensive clinical experience working with queer, gay, lesbian , bi, straight, trans, cis, poly, and monogamous people — in addition to people of various ethnic and racial identities, people in recovery, and people of various socioeconomic backgrounds.
People sometimes come to therapy seeking support in getting through a challenging time or in making a difficult decision. At other times they're looking to change long-term patterns of behaving and relating. And sometimes we feel lost, stuck, or hopeless and aren’t sure what to do. Whatever your goal, motivation, or need, I believe therapy can facilitate discovery and change that can increase self-knowledge as well as strengthen and improve the quality of your relationships not only with with the significant people in your life but also — and maybe more importantly — with yourself.

I provide individual therapy, marital counseling, and counseling with gay and lesbian couples.
Seeking a psychotherapist is often a decision made as a result of a crisis or when feeling a heightened level of personal discomfort. This decision takes strength, motivation and a desire to begin the process of exploration and development of greater personal insight and strategic ways of coping with existing circumstances. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 30 years of experience working with adults who have sought therapy to assist them in; improving self esteem, management/reduction of anxiety, mood disorders, relationship/intimacy issues, and those who desired a greater understanding of their behaviors and feelings.

I work with gay and lesbian clients and especially enjoy doing couple work.
People often ask me "How do you listen to people's problems all day?" I am inspired by the people I meet who often have difficult backgrounds and lives, yet are willing to work hard to grow and be happy, healthy, human beings. I am touched by their commitment and dedication to work on themselves instead of being angry, miserable people. What more important investment is there than investing time and energy in oneself?

Part of my work is focused on Lesbian , Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, intersex, asexual, and all other identities of adults & young adults.
Daily and long-existent challenges can impact one’s sense of self and satisfaction. One’s relationships may also be harmed by frustration, anger, hopelessness, and anxiety that organically emerge. Human beings are multilayered organisms and I hold that each layer, in its unique form, contributes to the makeup of who you are or eventually whom you see yourself becoming as a whole person. Those layers are often blurred or forgotten due to the stressors that get in the way, but you continue to be the only person who truly knows what it means to live a life that feels authentic to you.

I have particular specialty working with individuals in the lesbian , gay, bisexual, and transgender community (LGBT) and with people from various religious and cultural backgrounds.
People seek psychotherapy for a variety of reasons. Some look to improve their relationships, some want to feel calmer, while others simply want to experience their emotions more fully. I see therapy as a collaborative conversation in which I help you reach your personal goals. I take an individualized approach and try to create a safe space in which you can explore a range of topics in an effort to learn about yourself and make changes as you see helpful. No matter your goal, I will do my best to understand you and help you better understand yourself.

My goal as a therapist is to create a supportive environment for those who have been marginalized because of their gender and sexuality. Perhaps you identify as queer, bisexual, lesbian , gay, pansexual, asexual, trans, nonbinary, agender, poly, kinky, something else, everything, and/or nothing at all. You deserve to have a space where you can explore the different parts of yourself without judgment. As a queer person who has sought out my own therapy, I know how difficult it can be to find an affirming therapist. Even if your identity isn’t central to your therapeutic goals, know that every part of you will be affirmed in our work.

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
