Your pain is not your destiny, but an invitation to turn towards and respect your deeper experience. Early wounds and trauma bind up our energy and cut off access to our aliveness. As an expert in soul loss, I can help you retrieve your energy, heal suffering and rewire old patterns, so you can more fully embody who you were meant to be. I use a mind-body approach (somatic experiencing/ gestalt ) with a relational lens (psychodynamic/ Jungian) and energy healing. If you feel stuck after years of talk therapy, I can help. I see children, adolescents, adults, couples & families and I practice online in Manhattan and California.

I use Gestalt and IFS as wonderful tools in therapy.
As your therapist, I will listen to you with care, interest, empathy, presence and compassion. I will support your emotional healing in a way that respects who you are. I will support your personal strengths, and help you engage them as fully as possible. I agree with Rogers, who believes that when a person experiences unconditional acceptance and empathic understanding from someone who is genuine and real, healing and growth occur. My style is generated from various humanistic psychotherapies with an interest in the mind/body/spirit interrelation, combined with a grounding in classical theories.

I receive advanced postdoctoral training in gestalt therapy, a cutting edge approach to therapy, in New York, California, and abroad.
I was born and raised in northern New Jersey and obtained a doctorate from NYU. I now have over 30 years experience as a clinician and work with people who have relationship/work issues, anxiety, depression and more. I have a diverse practice in NYC and these days my practice is with primarily adults and on-line. In February 2022, I became a prostate cancer survivor so that is now part of my personal and professional journey. I am pleased to know that people experience me as a compassionate, thoughtful, and competent professional who approaches the therapeutic work relationally and with a sense of humor.

As a therapist trained in psychoanalysis and gestalt psychotherapy I have come to learn that the most essential ingredient for successful therapy is the therapeutic relationship.
I have a warm, empathic, interactive, and down-to-earth style that I believe helps individuals feel comfortable, supported, and understood. Creating a trusting therapeutic relationship and providing a supportive and non-judgmental environment where one can express and explore their personal challenges is of great importance to me. I believe that a strong therapeutic partnership is how true growth and change occur. I will work with you to explore your challenges and identify new possibilities that allow you to move forward in your life.

Using the present-centered, experiential emphasis of Gestalt Therapy alongside psychodynamic talk therapy, I will support you in exploring thoughts, physical sensations, emotions and images from dreams and imagination.
How can we make deeper changes when we are trying to manage unusual pain, or are just handling our day-to-day suffering? When we feel safe and accepted as we are, we can challenge ourselves to grow, and to encounter others in an authentic way. I aim to create, with you, a safe place where we get to know your habitual patterns of behaving and relating, and explore less familiar sides of you that may offer surprising possibilities for thinking, feeling, relating and living. How can deepening awareness enliven, balance, support, un-stick, sustain or change your life? Let's find out!

My knowledge base in counseling and psychotherapy is a culmination of thirty years of clinical experience lunched initially in Martin de Porres University, Peru, where I also pursued Advanced course in Gestalt psychotherapy.
My approach to therapy is holistic as my interest goes far beyond psychological issues. I want to understand, for example, the roles of the mind, the body, and the environment in causation of client’s problems. I look at all aspects of their lives in order to bring about permanent resolutions to their problems.

Have you tried to figure out where you’re getting stuck & the usual ways of coping with the pressure are no longer working? Shame, conflict in your relationships, & uncertainty about your future only add to your distress. You are sick & tired & know you need to make a change. I can help.

Chairwork, Schema therapy, Gestalt therapy, Voice Dialogue, and Imagery Rescripting are the major sources of inspiration for my work.
I believe that I am a good match for patients seeking a psychotherapy experience that is focused, active, and intense -- particularly those wrestling with issues of fear and courage, past histories of trauma and mistreatment, inner conflicts, and deeply painful feelings. As a Transformational Chairwork practitioner trained in Gestalt Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Voice Dialogue, I use of imagery and psychodramatic techniques extensively as I believe that these are extremely effective ways of helping people change and heal. In my addiction work, I integrate various forms of parts work with Harm Reduction Psychotherapy.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
