My years in the field of compulsive gambling and money disorders eventually led me to co-author the renowned book, Behind the Eight Ball: A Recovery Guide for Families of Gamblers.
Obstacles that can lead to compulsive behaviors, isolation and overwhelming frustration must be addressed if we are to make healthier and more fulfilling personal choices. As a nationally recognized expert in the field of addiction and compulsive disorders, my therapeutic approach is derived from a strength oriented perspective in which patients are encouraged to tap into their own resilience, and unique resources. The results of our work together will be an individualized therapeutic experience, where meaningful change is possible.

I am well acquainted with various approaches and modalities to help you, your family, or someone you love deal with alcohol or chemical dependency, substance use disorders, problematic gambling , compulsive cell/Internet use, or sex addiction.
I work with individuals, couples, and families who are trying to cope with their own or a loved one's chemical or behavioral addiction, relationship challenges, anxiety, work issues, or life decisions. I also see people who aren’t enduring any of those challenges but who want to speak on a regular basis to address small issues before they become big ones. My style is conversational, direct, and investigative. I listen carefully both to what is said and for what is omitted, ask questions until we agree that I understand your perspective, and help guide you to long-term solutions. For therapists: I am available for supervision.

Whether it is you or your adolescent who is struggling with either alcohol, drugs, gambling , food, sex, gaming, internet, etc.
The traditional approaches to treating addiction do not work for many people. My approach can help anyone, including teenagers, make substantial progress towards resolving an addiction. If you are an adult, I work with you to identify your goals and ultimately build a truly fulfilling life for yourself. This may involve abstinence or learning moderation or simply significantly reducing the behavior to a more optimal level. For your child, I focus on building a very trusting relationship, and even those who seem super resistant to treatment, I have learned how to "win over" in my twenty years of experience.

This experience has allowed me to cultivate a comfort and confidence in treating numerous client concerns; be it emotional, interpersonal, psychiatric, addictions (early and advanced recovery enhancement needs), trauma recovery, adjustment, sexual identity, eating disorders, compulsive gambling , mood disorders, self-esteem, anger management, spiritual concerns and creativity enhancement.
Recovery is not a solitary journey; it is about connection with self and others. As we enter into the process of therapy you will have the opportunity to experience inner connection and awareness leading to Self expansion and outer growth. I believe strongly that our primary task is to continue your journey of self exploration; to seek the wealth of potential, strength, compassion, understanding, and openness that lies within. It is your ability to connect with these that will serve as your greatest asset in obtaining whatever goals you have coming into therapy.

I help to address a variety of challenges, including depression, anxiety and fears, childhood and sexual trauma, self-esteem issues, addiction, gambling disorders, relationship problems, identity issues and loneliness, adjustment to life's transitions, work stress, creativity blocks; adult children of alcoholics/addicts and individuals in advanced sobriety are welcome.
I believe successful psychotherapy relies on a unique relationship between a client and a therapist that is jointly created; together we discover and nurture the client's needs. I provide insight-oriented therapy with the belief that you, the client, are the expert on your own life. My role is to provide guidance and understanding of your journey. I believe in authenticity in the therapeutic relationship, where I create a safe, warm and empathetic environment for exploration of past and present emotional struggles and psychological blockages to lead you toward your own healing and personal growth.

Gambling Therapists
A compulsive gambler or a pathological gambler is someone who is unable to resist his or her impulses to gamble. The urge to gamble becomes so great that tension can only be relieved by more gambling.

There is a very fine line between problem gambling or New York gambling addiction and gambling too much. The critical sign of problem gambling is often hidden from awareness, with denial. Many gamblers in New York typically do not know they have a problem. Admitting you have a problem, or may have a problem, is the first step to recovery.

Treatment options include individual and group psychotherapy, and self-help support groups such as Gamblers Anonymous (a 12-step program for gamblers). Abstinence principles that apply to other types of addiction are also relevant in the treatment of compulsive gambling behavior in New York.

Recently, medications such as antidepressants, opioid antagonists, and mood stabilizers have been shown to be beneficial in combination with gambling treatment by a New York gambling therapist or gambling therapists in New York or those experienced with gambling behaviors in New York.
