On the inside, it can feel very different: drinking or gambling more than you’d like, living with constant anxiety, or feeling worn down by big life changes.
My approach is to create an environment where you feel heard and understood, while also highlighting your strengths. Together, we’ll look at the patterns that have kept you stuck and find new ways to respond. The goal is to change how you interact with challenges and open up options that lead to real solutions.

I'm a Gambling Addiction specialist with years of experience helping high-achieving professional men (age 30+) in NYC end their problem gambling.
My approach helps compulsive gamblers by teaching them effective skills and more importantly helping them gain the insights necessary to recreate their lives. We don't just focus on your problem gambling, though, but rather address all of your struggles/areas in your life. Addiction is never just about a behavior, and so this is a "whole-person" solution.

You may find yourself feeling stuck in unfulfilling relationship patterns, weighed down by anxiety, struggling to reconnect with yourself after loss or change, or carrying the weight of old wounds that still feel present. Maybe you find it hard to trust, to set boundaries, or let others in without fear. I offer a warm, collaborative space where you can slow down, explore what’s underneath the surface, and begin to rebuild self-trust, confidence, and connection—both with yourself and others. I have training from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP) and experience working with children in school settings.

My primary focus is working with individuals struggling with gambling.
Once these patterns are identified, we’ll explore their root causes and begin learning and applying new skills that support positive, lasting change and a more fulfilling life. In developing a treatment plan, there is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy. I want to better understand you as an individual and the reason that brought you to therapy.

As a dual-trained cognitive neuroscientist and clinical psychologist, I take a holistic approach to treatment focusing on maximizing mental health and well-being for each individual, rather than focusing on “illness”. I specialize in lifespan treatment of anxiety, mood, and impulsive and compulsive disorders with cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and humanistic approaches. By combining evidence-based psychotherapy with a deep understanding of neuroscience I give patients a unique, comprehensive perspective.

If only everyone could achieve personal growth to enhance their quality of life, as I have seen through psychotherapy. With over 43 years of experience helping people, it has been profoundly rewarding to guide countless individuals toward positive changes: growth, happiness, less stress and anxiety, and overcoming sadness. Supporting people daily as they work toward a more fulfilling life is my greatest reward. Witnessing such transformations and knowing many still underestimate how much therapy can improve and uplift their lives makes me a passionate advocate for it. Please, find your growth and greater life fulfillment.

It may sound simple, but when you are troubled and can't figure out what's in the way of achieving your goals, talk can really be the best medicine. Whether it's relationship disappointment, stalled career plans, new parent challenges, the shock of retirement or other life transitions, painful baffling emotions, self-defeating behaviors or use of substances in a harmful way, talking with someone trained to help you make sense of things can lead to greater control over your actions, choices and decisions. I also teach advanced candidates and provide clinical case consultation of therapists in private practice.

Being queer in today’s world is TOUGH, and having to constantly explain your identity to your therapist doesn’t make it any easier. I'm passionate about working within the LGBTQ+ community. You may be struggling to find your place in the community or find a safe and validating support system. You may be struggling to figure out your relationships- maybe you are overwhelmed at the thought of finding a partner, maintaining your relationships, or managing conflicting sex drives. Or maybe you need an outlet to talk about how much the world can suck and process what that means for you.

Now offering in person and video sessions. Sometimes life can present us with problems that are too difficult to manage on our own. For over 35 years, I have helped people of all ages overcome trauma, anxiety, depression and substance abuse. I utilize a specialized technique. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Does the pain keep getting worse and worse no matter what you do?

I provide an opportunity for people to freely express their feelings and thoughts to achieve the changes they desire. I work interactively with clients so they may develop their strengths and achieve their goals. Assisting individuals in becoming at ease with their feelings, however difficult they may be, is an important aspect of the work I do. Feelings can become useful tools for living rather than disturbing impediments. The ubiquitous problems of uncomfortable feelings, harmful behaviors, and the challenges of relationships, careers and parenting are common areas of focus.

How do gambling rehabilitation programs work?
There are both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs. However, for some individuals, an outpatient facility may not offer enough hands-on care, and for other individuals, an inpatient facility may be too much. Both types of care have knowledgeable health professionals including physicians (in the case of residential programs), psychologists, counselors, psychotherapists, and recovered mentors.

How do gambling 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Abstinence and maintenance are key for 12-step gambling disorder programs. Individuals in a 12-step group rely on each other for support and accountability. In addition, there is often a spiritual element to these programs, whereby belief in a higher power can help the individual overcome their tendencies. If an individual genuinely wants to cease gambling, attending a 12-step program along with regular psychotherapy can be highly effective.

How long does therapy take for gambling disorder?
Recovering from gambling disorder takes time and effort. There’s no precise timeline for treatment, but a person can see change if they stick with therapy and if they have the will and desire to stop. Treatment for gambling disorder requires honesty in therapy, a commitment to understanding triggers, as well as the development of coping skills. Making lifestyle changes is also important, such as staying away from lotteries, online gambling, and casinos.

Is relapse a problem for those with a gambling disorder?
Gambling disorder is often chronic and can be life-long; therefore relapse may present a problem for some individuals. But effective treatment can bring a person’s life under control. To remain healthy and on track, the individual may need to regularly check in with their support group or psychotherapist. Frequently refreshing their tools of recovery can be helpful.
