Starting psychotherapy can be an exciting and anxiety-provoking process as you take active steps to make changes in your life and relationships. I approach psychotherapy as a collaboration and work in an integrative way, tailoring interventions to individual needs. Congratulations on taking this step in seeking help and support for yourself or your
family
. I work with children and adolescents, families, men, and women. My 20-plus years of clinical work with children and families is built on an attachment-oriented foundation and is informed by my personal experience as an adoptive parent and training in relevant play and
family
therapies. Regardless of a child’s emotional/behavioral presentation or attachment (RAD) history, I view parents as partners in their child’s therapeutic process and support and guide them, in parent sessions and/or in
family
sessions with their child.

In this setting, I provided individual,
family
, and group therapy to those who were grieving and supervised clinicians working with patients and families devastated by loss and trauma.
I'm a psychotherapist with 15 years of experience treating patients struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and related symptoms. My approach is eclectic. It's my experience that patients do best when our work together is tailored to their unique needs and goals. Understanding what's underneath current struggles is often an essential first step in the process of healing and growing. I believe how we reach that understanding is a mutual process that must be grounded, always, in compassion and respect for your pace in exploring what brings you to therapy.

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma related stressors, personality disorders, life transitions, lack of motivation, navigating relationships, body image, or self-esteem? I believe that therapy should be a collaborative process where trust, empathy, and acceptance make up the building blocks of each session. My therapeutic style can be described as psychodynamic. In our sessions, I will incorporate elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and mindfulness. Additionally, I am certified in eye-movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) trauma therapy.

By becoming engaged and working with a solution-focused therapist, you will begin to uncover your child's and/or your
family
's potential. You will begin to engage in a life that is worth celebrating, not merely tolerating. Throughout the growth cycles of children and adolescents, they often have many behavioral issues. This includes ADHD, unresolved stress, unsupported grief, addiction/recovery issues. Families of all types can have these ongoing struggles. Conflict resolution is paramount between
family
members. In addition, counseling the parents re: their own depression, anxiety or personality issues is paramount to completing the cycle of ongoing
family
distress.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
