EMDR Therapists in New York, NY
I am trained in EMDR and am able to either weave this technique into talk therapy or offer it as a sole focus.
Blending intuition and compassion, I assist clients to gain a better understanding of themselves and their values and to identify patterns that hinder positive experiences and relationships. I am drawn towards a trauma-informed, person-centered, experiential approach, in tandem with the application of tangible strategies and coping skills. In my work as a grief counselor, individually and in groups, I draw upon my personal experience moving through complicated grief, bringing the intersection of my clinical skill and lived experience of harnessing the healing benefits of empathic grief support.

With a supportive, interpersonal approach, my goal is to guide you, but not direct you to recognize and then rise above the obstacles that prevent you from thriving in all aspects your life--in work, family & romantic relationships, creativity, and in your own self-development. Since 1996 I have had the opportunity to work with individuals and couples who have struggled with a wide variety of emotional issues. I have found that lasting change comes from discovering the underlying causes of problems, and working together to resolve and reduce your symptoms, while helping you grow towards becoming your most authentic self.

I also specialize in panic/agoraphobia, I'm EMDR-trained for trauma, and have Gestalt psychotherapy training
I provide couples and marriage counseling for partners who feel stuck in a painful pattern. You may love each other, but lately it feels like you are having the same fight on repeat. You feel unheard or dismissed. Small issues escalate fast, or you avoid topics because they turn into combat. Over time, blame, defensiveness, shutdown, and resentment take over, and you wonder where the relationship is headed. Many couples reach out because they miss the easier, warmer seasons of their relationship and want a path back to closeness.

You’ve been holding a lot. Maybe no one would guess it, but inside, there’s tension you can’t name—anxiety that lingers, old hurt that won’t settle, or a constant pressure to hold it all together. Maybe it’s hard to trust. Hard to ask for what you need. You might find yourself pulling away, or doing everything to keep the peace while losing parts of yourself in the process. Therapy is a place to land—somewhere steady, where your story is held with care. We’ll move at your pace, gently untangling the patterns that keep you stuck, and making space for a deeper, more honest connection to yourself and the people you love.

I also have specialized training in the treatment of trauma and often use approaches like EMDR, CPT or prolonged exposure with clients who may benefit from it.
I am a clinical psychologist with experience in providing short to medium-term treatment that is specific and goal oriented. Early in our work together we will strive to identify specific things you want to change in your life, so we can evaluate along the way whether our strategies are working or need to be tweaked. I also believe it is important to remain flexible and allow space in therapy for exploration, as we might not be fully aware of how certain things affect our lives at the beginning of therapy. You can learn more about me and my practice at www.pacsnyc.com.

“Everything can be taken from us but one thing, the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way” — Viktor Frankl. It is my firm belief that we free ourselves to think and act in new ways when we are willing to embrace the exploration of the self and develop insights into the motivations behind our behavior. We will work together to build a shared understanding of the obstacles that you are facing, whether that means improving your interpersonal relationships, exploring your identity/sexuality/spirituality, strengthening your self esteem, finding motivation and success in your career, navigating overwhelming and traumatic experiences, or identifying maladaptive patterns that may be acting as barriers to the life you want. I offer both short and long term psychotherapy to adolescents and adults seeking assistance with anxiety, mood disorders, mood dysregulation, obsessive thinking, compulsive behavior, ADHD, substance abuse, anger, impulsivity, highly sensitive temperament, and psychoeducation related to psychiatric medication management.

What are you looking for? It’s a question we’ve all heard before — maybe too many times, especially in New York where it pops up on every dating app. It can feel cliché, even irritating. And yet, it’s also one of the hardest questions we face. We don’t always know what we’re looking for, which can leave us feeling restless, stuck, or disconnected. That’s often where therapy begins. There’s no perfect way to prepare for what life throws at us, but we can try to carry it through with some resilience, a bit of grace, and even a little humor.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
