My therapeutic style is a combination of Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT),
Dialectical
Behavioral Therapy (
DBT
), and Psychodynamic.
Being an authentic psychotherapist for my clients is crucial towards forging a lasting and useful therapeutic relationship. I am a firm believer that a psychotherapist must understand and work on themselves in order to fully help their clients. I promise that throughout the course of our relationship I will do the best that I can to empathize with and understand you, and consistently adhere to my principles of humility, patience, and inquisitiveness. I will help you to navigate life and address areas of difficulty, trauma, and distress, rather than assessing you in a manner that is clinical or cold.

I am a trauma-informed mental health counselor based in New York and I work primarily with young adults of all genders, all sizes, abilities, races, and ethnicities, ages 18-35, specializing in eating disorders/disordered eating and working through your relationship with your body. I adhere to the principles of Health At Every Size and take an anti-diet approach in my work, meaning I help support those in all bodies to recognize non-adaptive behavioral patterns, develop tools for regulating emotions, and work towards body acceptance.

Let me tell you a secret, therapy is not a one size fits all type of thing! I wish it were as it would make life so much easier, but the fact is every person is different and requires sessions catered to their own unique backgrounds, environments, and goals. As a psychotherapist, my aim is to work with you on getting to wherever you want to be in life, so I invite you to reach out if you are interested in taking a bumpy ride through the road of self-discovery.

Understanding your journey is unique, I utilize both CBT and
DBT
amongst other psychodynamic modalities.
To seek counsel and to make the conscious decision to ask for help is an act of courage. It is never easy to be vulnerable to another, let alone, allow someone into your world. Forman once said, “It is an act of bravery to feel your feelings.” I hold this statement to be true. As your therapist, it is my hope to be able to develop a therapeutic alliance with you to walk the journey of exploring and overcoming whatever challenges and obstacles you may be facing. By implementing several different types of clinical modalities including CBT,
DBT
, and Psychodynamic therapies, it is my goal to be able to meet you where you’re at

Welcome! I am here, ready to meet you wherever you may be on your journey toward better mental wellness. I believe this process is not only about resolving and healing the issues you come to therapy with but about moving toward becoming a whole person. I will help you to honor your feelings and see them as guiding forces rather than as something to fight or be afraid of. I will also help you connect to your values, which is the first step in creating a life worth living...something that I believe is absolutely possible for you.

Though I work primarily through a psychodynamic lens, I often integrate aspects of
Dialectical
Behavioral Therapy (
DBT
) to strengthen coping skills or relationship effectiveness.
I believe that we all carry vast wisdom within us; I also believe that suffering often arises from our difficulty listening to our own wisdom & from the ways we learn to cope (isolation, blame, anger, busy-ness, drug/alcohol-related problems, hopelessness). We also face incredible hardship & pain (e.g., the loss of a loved one, a traumatic event) that dramatically alter our lives & perspectives & shake our ability to trust or feel safe. I honor the courage it takes to come to therapy & prioritize building a relationship based on trust & safety, essential for us to collaboratively explore beliefs, patterns, & reactions with openness

In our sessions together, you can expect my therapeutic style to be warm, empathetic and person-centered. Therapy should not be one-size-fits-all and I recognize that every client brings a different story to session. You are the expert of your own experience and I will take the time to understand how we can collaborate together to work on your own personal therapeutic goals. We will work to help you develop new tools, process your experiences, emphasize your strengths and celebrate the little victories along the way.

I know that going to therapy can feel scary. Talking to someone about your struggles is a vulnerable place to be so it’s important to choose a therapist who you can trust and connect with. I place value on building a therapeutic relationship that is supportive, trusting, compassionate, and nonjudgmental. My aim is help people cultivate more authentic and gratifying lives. While I am best known as an eating disorder specialist, I have extensive experience in treating anxiety, depression, body image, low self-worth, and interpersonal relational difficulties.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
