There is nothing in the world like the therapeutic
relationship
and therapeutic success.
In these difficult times, the support that therapy can provide is more needed than ever. The use of telephone and video is an adjustment for us all but the therapeutic encounter is still powerful. This is a time when feelings of loneliness and isolation, anxiety and uncertainty can take hold. Having a professional to talk to and to connect with can help us through this challenging time.

I specialize in providing psychodynamic psychotherapy to individuals,
couples
and families.
I see therapy as a space where I can help my clients understand who they are so that they can gain freedom in how they walk through the world. Life’s ebbs and flows can evoke painful feelings and, in my experience, understanding those feelings alongside another person can bring about relief and lifelong change.

My client population is young adults and adults (including their ”inner children”)—individuals and
couples
.
Before I became a psychotherapist, I had a career as a professional diplomat, and I served in different countries. Having been exposed to diverse cultures in the course of my life, I am particularly attuned to the varieties of narratives that shape people’s identities and relationships with self and others. In my work with each client, I aim to bring my unique personal and professional perspectives into our therapeutic dialogue. I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where clients can explore how old patterns—that might no longer serve them—repeat in the present and foreclose future growth.

Life, at times, can feel heavy and you don’t need to carry the burden of your struggles or experiences alone. It can be challenging to find a space to open up about all the different areas of your life that make you who you are, past and present, and your hope for the future. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, symptoms of trauma, 1st gen family or cultural conflicts, coping with life transitions,
relationship
issues, identifying & setting healthy boundaries, or the myriad challenges that can arise, I am here to support you in finding your peace.

In my clinical practice, I believe clients benefit from the ongoing dynamics that build between themselves and the therapist over time. I am warm, attentive, solution focused and integrate traditional counseling with holistic ideals and look at the therapeutic
relationship
as a partnership and will be with you as a guide as we navigate this important step.
I understand and honor the courage needed to take the first step towards change in your life. Navigating the human condition can often be immensely painful and this is why I believe so strongly in compassionate and supportive therapeutic engagement. The beauty and growth in life that we are all seeking is often discovered amidst pain and discomfort. My training and experience allow me to comprehend the human experience, which can include trauma, life stressors, and circumstances from the past and/or present that leave people feeling stuck and confused. I especially enjoy working with the LGBTQIA community.

Whether you are anxious, depressed, experiencing a loss, having
relationship
difficulties, or any other life transition, everyone can benefit from the safe space of therapy. We all get stuck interacting with the world in maladaptive ways and have difficulty finding our way out. I see therapy as a collaborative process in which we work to identify these patterns and to develop new ways of interacting with the world.

relationship
.
Do you feel stuck in the same patterns of thoughts and behaviors over & over again, & feel lost on where to go next? Is the idea of change making you feel anxious to the point that you would rather not think about it? Let me help you break through these repetitive patterns & try something new. I want to work together to change how you think so that you can leave therapy feeling like your best self. I'll teach you strategies that you will practice out of session to help with those repetitive thoughts & behaviors. La’Tish practices from a holistic, culturally affirming and strength-based approach. She is passionate about providing women and
couples
with the supportive care that helps them thrive. Many of her clients feel exhausted balancing their multiple roles and even though their drive leads to high achievement, it burns them out, leaving them with anxiety, depression, and increased challenges in their relationships. La’Tish helps these clients unpack the stuff that has been hard to deal with alone, find balance in their lives and reconnect with their values within a supportive, nonjudgmental therapeutic space.

Therapy is a collaborative process, and it is important to find the right
partner
for the journey.
Accepting new clients in-person/online. I believe that therapy is not a "one size fits all” process. Every person is a complex individual, and every
relationship
is unique. I offer therapy with a non-judgmental, anti-racist, strength-based, affirming approach, and adapt treatment to my clients’ values and make up, including gender, ethnicity, and sexuality. As an active
partner
I will always be on your side, but I will also challenge you when necessary. My experience is extensive, diverse, and contemporary, and my past in Creative and Producing for Film and Advertising brings a unique perspective to my practice.

I work with addiction, trauma, creative blocks,
relationship
issues and anxieties related to cultural dislocation.
Psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a unique practice of listening to the unconscious undertones of life: what one wants, and what gets in the way of achieve it. As a tool to understand what our bodies and minds are communicating through anxiety, addiction and repetitive patterns, talk therapy can build links and bring to the foreground what has been kept hidden or secret. By understanding the function and survival mechanism of our defenses, and by connecting free-associative speech to our desires, we are given a new choice as to what we want to hold on to, and what we can let go of.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
