I know how difficult it can be to open up to someone about your most vulnerable, hidden self. This step is often the hardest to take, and taking it means facing thoughts and feelings you'd rather not— but it also means creating a path of healing for yourself. I strive to provide you with a safe, therapeutic space filled with compassion and empathy to support you while we take on this challenge. Together, we will begin to explore the thoughts and experiences that cause you pain. The important thing to remember is that you don't have to do it alone.

People don’t come into therapy because they are feeling calm, and happy. They come into therapy at the point when they cannot find a way to help themselves. Many can see they have self defeating patterns of behavior and make bad choices but they do not know how to stop. In my practice I work with creatives frustrated at how difficult it is for them to fulfill their dreams as well as people who have good jobs that do not make them happy. Some have relationships problems or feel alone. I help people develop insight into the roots of their problems and then encourage them to move forward. Believing you have agency diminishes anxiety.

It can be really scary not feeling like yourself. It’s disappointing to exist without truly living or feeling a sense of purpose. It’s very painful and lonely losing a loved one/ending close relationships. There can also be a lot of depression, anxiety, and grief that comes with feeling stuck, letting go or dealing with situations you can't control. Without the proper support, life stressors can take a tremendous toll on your mental and emotional health and lead to trouble with your relationships as well as your overall functioning.

Balance is fundemental to a life well-lived. I believe that we all strive for harmony within ourselves, our world, and our expectations for our future. We strive for self-fulfillment within these areas but at times, reaching them can beceome overwelming. Deciding to begin therapy is an important and extremely personal choice. I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in scientifically validated psychological treatments including cognitive behavior therapy, rational emotive psychotherapy, and dialectical behavior therapy. I work with adults, children, couples, to help them in their pursuit of a life well-lived.

Reaching out for help can be quite a bit anxiety-inducing, as we generally do not know what to expect. It is understandable! I do not take for granted that my clients come to me, a stranger, and share personal details of their lives. I want it to feel like a collaborative process, so I am here to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment for us to work together. When working with me, you can expect me to trust that you know yourself best, so I want to hear from you where you are, and where you want to be. I want to understand what works best for you, and to support you in developing your strong intuition.

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, our ability to grow in the direction of a more thriving and vibrant life is hampered by painful emotions or old patterns we just can't seem to shake. We might find ourselves stuck, lost, overwhelmed, or detached, whether due to life circumstances or factors we cannot immediately identify. I see therapy as a way to address these sorts of challenges by co-creating a space for greater understanding and appreciation of each client’s emotional life. Through this process, I aim to help my clients access a greater degree of freedom within themselves and with others.

I practice therapy from a non-pathologizing, strengths-based approach that seeks to contextualize your experience within the interconnected social, familial, and personal systems you're a part of. Although we can't stop the inevitable changes and suffering that life often brings, we can change how we relate to these things and even find meaning in that process. Ultimately, I believe that each person has the capacity to translate their individual growth into systemic growth, and developing skills and awareness toward this process is central to my therapeutic practice.

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
