The work in therapy can help this person not only talk about their problems but try to use non verbal means of expression through music, art, poetry, visual journaling, and imagery with meditative states of mind.
I have a MA degree in music therapy from NYU and studied the effects of music, imagery in meditative states of mind. The combination of non-verbal creative expressions and traditional talk therapy can accelerate change by activating both hemispheres in the brain. This approach helps people with depression and anxiety change the way they think about themself

You may be balancing multiple identities, managing important goals, and trying to keep relationships alive across distances. On the surface you’re holding it together, but inside you might feel overwhelmed, lonely, or unsure where you belong. In therapy, you’ll find a space to slow down and feel fully seen. Together we’ll make sense of your experiences, uncover your strengths, and build a more grounded, confident way of moving through life so you can feel at home within yourself, wherever you are.

Hello and welcome to my psychotherapy practice. It is a safe supportive space to address the difficulties that you would like to resolve and gain strength from your increasing self-awareness. There is within all of us, great potential to access our inner resources and live a more rewarding and fulfilling life. Yet all too often emotional concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, fears, eating disorders, blockages that hold us back from action, and even old habits prevent us from being the person we would like to be.

I work with adults navigating difficult family dynamics, ADHD, addiction, trauma, burnout, chronic illness, and stress that shows up in the body. I also support people moving through creative blocks, relationship changes, and major life transitions. I have deep experience working with queer and trans folks, activists, artists, people with nontraditional lifestyles and relationships, and those impacted by state repression. My approach is holistic, collaborative, and grounded in care—supporting you in carrying what’s yours and gently letting go of what no longer serves you.

People often come to therapy not because something is “wrong,” but because something no longer feels aligned. Anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship struggles can quietly narrow your world, pulling you out of your body and away from meaningful connection. I work with individuals and couples in NYC who want trauma-informed therapy that honors both emotional depth and lived experience. My work supports healing from trauma, managing anxiety and depression, and rebuilding a sense of safety, agency, and connection, both within yourself and with others.

Hi, I’m Courtney. I understand how nerve-wracking it can feel to open up to someone new especially a therapist. I also know the relief that comes when you feel understood. When parts of us feel “too much” or “not enough,” we can start to hide and lose touch with who we are. Together, we’ll turn toward those parts with curiosity and care, to understand the stories they tell about what you long for, what is painful and what you imagine. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic and relational therapy, where we slow down to notice the patterns shaping your relationships, emotions, and inner world.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
