We often underestimate past experiences' effect on our personality, self-image, and current relational patterns. Together, we will bridge gaps between the past and present and identify the patterns of behavior, coping, and interpersonal functioning that no longer serve you. My approach to therapy is non-judgmental, empathic, and candid, with humoristic relief. I firmly believe therapy isn't changing you if it isn't challenging you. I strive to build a solid therapeutic relationship and supportive foundation to safely explore uncomfortable thoughts and feelings and promote a greater understanding of self and others.

I believe in the individual's unique experience. We all have parts of ourselves that we don't recognize, don't understand, or simply feel we cannot change. In our nonjudgmental, safe space and with you as the captain, we will discover what is causing the difficulties in your life, and how you can grow into a more fulfilling way of living. At times, I will challenge you to dig deeper, but I will support you every step of the way.

Emotions carry big wisdom, yet when feelings grow too large or too painful, they can leave you feeling distant from yourself and the people you long to reach. You may find yourself caught between wanting closeness and wanting to disappear. Or you might overthink, shut down, or repeat patterns that pull you away from your authentic self. Together, we can slow down to listen more closely to what your inner world has been trying to tell you. Rather than treating emotions as something to silence or overcome, we learn to use them to guide you toward what you need and who you are.

You're thoughtful and resilient, and you've worked hard for what you have. From the outside, you're the one others depend on — the one who's had to manage different worlds to get where you are. But underneath, there are old hurts and patterns that weigh you down. Maybe it's anxiety or depression you can't shake. Maybe it's a voice that says you're not good enough. Maybe it's relationship patterns you want to change. You don't have to carry it alone. Together, we'll work on healing those old hurts so you can stop just coping and start becoming who you really are.

It takes courage to turn toward yourself with raw honesty. To seek clarity and to begin the journey of unconditional acceptance. I am here for you. I work with late adolescents and adults navigating life's most disorienting moments: identity shifts, life transitions, relationship endings, loss, and recovery from emotionally abusive dynamics. I specialize in working with immigrants, bicultural individuals, and LGBTQIA+ folks navigating the tension of belonging to more than one world. I am here to support learning to separate your own voice from the voices you inherited from family, culture, and the systems that shaped you.

My ideal clients are adults who are high-functioning on the outside but quietly struggling on the inside — holding everything together for everyone else while running on empty. Many are navigating bicultural identity, intergenerational trauma, or first-generation pressures. Others are women facing divorce, loss, or major life transitions, veterans, or professionals who feel stuck despite their success. They come ready to stop surviving and start thriving. Through a warm, culturally sensitive approach, we work together to build a life that finally feels like theirs.

Relationships can be deeply meaningful and connecting, but also complicated and sometimes painful. You may find yourself repeating familiar patterns, struggling to communicate your needs, feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, or unsure of who you are beneath the expectations placed on you. As a Asian-American woman, I understand what it means to navigate different identities, cultural expectations, and relationships while trying to stay connected to yourself. I strive to create a warm and compassionate space where you can feel more fully yourself: more grounded, more connected, and more human in your experience.

As an Asian immigrant, I understand firsthand the pressures of balancing cultural expectations with life in the U.S.—feeling torn between family obligations and personal goals, navigating identity in different cultural spaces, or struggling to express emotions that may not feel “acceptable” in your community. These experiences inform my work with clients who feel stuck, anxious, or disconnected, especially when patterns from the past show up in relationships, work, or life transitions. I create a compassionate, culturally attuned space for clients seeking to better understand themselves, explore their emotions, and build confidence.

You're thoughtful, creative, and resilient — and you had to be. You grew up navigating between worlds, carrying more than your share, figuring out who you are in spaces that weren't built for all of you. You've built a life you're proud of. Yet underneath, there are old hurts and patterns that weigh you down. Maybe it's family dynamics that still run you. Maybe it's the weight of your identity — your queerness, your race, the parts that never quite fit. I'm a queer Afro-Latina therapist who works with LGBTQ+ people of color — professionals, grad students, creatives — ready to heal, not just cope. You don't have to carry it alone.

Many of the people I work with have already put significant effort into understanding themselves. Maybe you've read the books, reflected on your patterns, or done a previous round of therapy. Thinking your way through the problem hasn't been enough to make it go away, whether you're struggling with something specific and painful or life looks good on paper and you still can't shake the feeling that something is missing. I'm particularly comfortable with clients who live in their heads, and part of what we work on is helping that analytical clarity deepen the emotional work rather than replace it.

Hi, I am Sam. I work with young adults and adults who may feel anxious, stuck, disconnected from themselves, or caught between different versions of who they are. Many of my clients are navigating relationship challenges, family dynamics, identity exploration, or life transitions while trying to better understand themselves with more compassion and clarity. I also have a particular interest in working with men who want to deepen their emotional awareness and feel more connected in their relationships. Together, we create space to slow down, reflect, and make sense of patterns that may no longer be serving you.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer Employee Assistance Plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.

What is an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)?
Employee Assistance Plans are purchased by employers for the benefit of their employees. EAPs typically assist employees with referrals and may also provide the first few sessions of therapy free of charge, with the patient's regular health insurance kicking in after those initial sessions. EAP benefits often apply to all types of therapy without the need for a medical diagnosis, making it easier to access couples therapy, therapy for life transitions, and other non-medical counseling. Just as with standard health insurance, clients should always check that a provider accepts their EAP benefits before scheduling. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
