I have extensive degrees including ;PHd,; MSW, MA, BA and have taught graduate and postgraduate studies at major Universities. I have expertise and training in body-oriented , brain-centered therapies: Somatic Experiencing, IFS , Polyvagal Theory with which I combine non traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy - - which lead to not only emotional well - being but to physiological healing. With this combination of therapies, the therapeutic work is very effective. As my work embodies a naturalistic approach, the therapy tends to be short term and/or of shorter duration than most psychologies

I am an NYC-based psychotherapist and psychoanalyst with over 20 years of clinical experience. I trained at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR) and am still involved with the organization today. In my opinion, psychodynamic therapy is an essential part of psychological work and can be beneficial for people from all walks of life. I have found that psychodynamic psychotherapy is an effective treatment option for those struggling with overwhelming emotions. One of the benefits of this approach is that it helps to create a safe and trusting relationship, which is important when learning new coping skills.

I take a psychodynamic approach to my work and look at my patients from all angles to try to understand everything that leads them to the place they are in now.
The courage to face one’s anxiety, sadness or pain is a huge step towards healing. I consider it a privilege and an honor to have people share their life struggles with me. Psychodynamic therapy helps people understand themselves better and, ultimately, the answers that they seek about their lives and what will make them more fulfilled will be revealed.

I use a primarily collaborative and psychodynamic approach, incorporating other therapeutic styles as needed, such as CBT, mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems, in a way that will continue to drive our work forward.
Many people often experience similar life events and stressors, but, while the event itself is objective, your interpretation of that event is subjective. It is those interpretations that lead to your story, a story that has shaped who you are today. However, stories can always be revised; you have the power to change your self-perception with a change in narrative. That is where therapy comes in. I believe that a crucial part of understanding your vantage point is taking the time to learn the nuances.

My eclectic approach includes psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to meet the needs of each individual client as no two people are alike.
I have found, in my private practice, that people usually seek therapy when they are going through an extremely stressful time in their lives, feel increasingly depressed or anxious or feel dissatisfied with different aspects of their lives(relationships, career, life transitions). My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental atmosphere in which clients can express their feelings and gain insight into what led to their current state of mind or difficult situation.

I utilize a variety of approaches in my work with clients, while tailoring each treatment plan to the individual and incorporating the goals that each person brings to treatment. Each person is unique and that is why I choose an integrative approach in my work. I incorporate both interpersonal and psychodynamic modalities with cognitive behavioral treatments in an effort to target both insight building and positive behavioral changes.

I practice psychodynamic treatment, and I also use cognitive/behavioral techniques to reduce symptomatology.
An experienced, well-trained, contemporary psychotherapist, in practice for over 25 years, I work with adults from diverse backgrounds who are struggling to cope with life events, anxiety, depression, difficulties in relationships, bereavement, alcohol abuse, the interaction between psychological states and physical symptoms, and work and career-related problems. I work to help you alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, understand and change self-defeating patterns, improve self-esteem and self-confidence, challenge negative perceptions, and learn new problem-solving and coping strategies.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
