I am a trauma-informed therapist with experience helping adult men and women.
My goal is to create a uniquely secure space for you to identify your blocks, understand your relationship to them, & find the tools you need to break through. Each of us has an innate potential for change & growth. I will jump into the work with you & be by your side throughout your discovery. My intention is to bring compassion & truth-telling to the process. After nearly two decades as a mindfulness educator, I believe our connection to our mind & body brings us closer to our motivation & inherent resilience. In our work together we’ll explore this connection to guide you toward the truest & most powerful version of yourself.

My ideal client is a male/ female in their late 20's, 30's, 40's or 50's who has a specific life issue they want to resolve.
I'm an experienced relationship coach, helping many men and women and families through difficult life changes or crisis. I started out my career in crisis intervention, but moved towards individual relationship counseling several years ago. As people get into their adult years, relationships become more complicated.

I also provide support groups for women experiencing hormone imbalances due to childbirth, fertility treatment, perimenopause and menopause.
Protecting yourself from pain by trying not to feel it only causes more pain. Do you distract yourself from uncomfortable feelings by over-working, eating or drinking too much, shopping, or dating? Much unhappiness is created by no longer useful coping devices. Avoiding feelings like anger, shame, regret and powerlessness, closes off access to informative parts of you. In our work together, I utilize practical tools, not just theory, to help you identify and remain connected to your feelings. Staying connected to yourself while relating to others allows for loving in healthy ways and feeling loved and valued by others.

I tend to work most commonly with women struggling with anxiety and issues related to perfectionism, life transitions, self-esteem, and relationships.
Now accepting New York and California clients! If you were looking for a sign to try therapy, consider this that sign. Life feels hard, and everyone and everything feels overwhelming. You just want to feel better but don't even know where to begin. You don't have to figure it all out on your own. So let's talk. Even better, let's collaborate. I have a relaxed style based on science but led by empathy and humor. I commonly help clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions, or even just a case of the "blahs."

It's completely normal to feel anxious especially for men and women who haven't grown up in families in which they were encouraged to talk about their feelings and experiences.
I have 30+ years experience as a clinical psychologist. My practice primarily involves adults who are struggling with relationship issues, work problems, anxiety, depression, or just a vague sense that something is wrong or missing in their lives. Many patients started treatment feeling unmotivated, empty, or cut off from their emotional life. It has been very gratifying to see patients in treatment learn to be comfortable talking about themselves and connecting with others in a different and gratifying way. I do believe that deep down everybody cares about his own story and wants to understand his own thoughts and feelings.

My mission in life is to see young women and adult women become the best version of themselves.
I approach this work with genuineness, sensitivity while actively listening and engaging. Clients are often afraid to be vulnerable for all the right reasons : ) I create a safe space for the journey to vulnerability and as a result, a powerful thing happens.

I have been providing person-centered individual therapy for 22 years and I have experience with guiding and supporting clients experiencing anxiety, depression, family conflicts, issues with self-esteem, grief, divorce, and women in their midlife chapter.
There is nothing more rewarding than being a part of a person's therapy journey and witnessing a change in behavior, thoughts, and words that were contributing to their negative feelings/behaviors in their lives. I am grateful to leave an impact on the lives of my clients and know that there is a positive change because of our work together in our sessions.

As an African-American woman, I value the power of healing and self-discovery for my clients.
I believe that embarking on therapy can be a big step in one’s life that can bring change to one's reality. I believe many people do not have the space to truly express themselves. You deserve to be seen and heard. I strive to create a safe space to express themselves openly. I make it my mission to meet clients with compassion and respect. I believe that the power of change is within all of us and this step is a testament to that journey.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
