I believe children and parents can have a happy time together. All children as they grow and all parents as they go through parenting encounter kinks in their development. I like to help children and adolescents learn to listen to and express their feelings directly and to help parents learn how to listen and communicate better with their children. With over 25 years of experience working individually with children and parents, in play group therapy and in parenting groups, I know how to use the strengths of each, child and parent , to promote better understanding of themselves and each other.

People seek therapy at vulnerable moments in their lives. Developing a space of safety is primary and it is important to me to hold this in mind as we begin. My primary role is to listen, and listen closely, though I work in an interactive fashion. I seek to help my patients develop self- compassion as they begin to consider aspects of their lives and experiences that have been kept "out of bounds". I am comfortable working with problems of mood, anxiety, relationships, work life and parenting issues.

As a first-generation licensed social worker living in between two cultures, I understand having to navigate different worlds, live up to expectations to succeed and figure out life’s challenges on your own. Are you balancing work, family obligations, and major transitions? Are you struggling with work-life balance or becoming a new parent ? I am here to help and support you along the way. You don’t have to navigate life alone. We need the support of others to help us get to where we want to be.

I am also expert in parenting issues and attachment theory.
In life we often ask ourselves "how come I ended up feeling like this, in the same situation again?" The psychodynamic approach has an answer for that: unless we make ourselves aware of what are our hidden motivations we will not get rid of maladaptive patterns that control our lives. Therapy is the exploration through which you get to know yourself better, you get to accept your personal history and the current situation that you are living in; allowing you to bring out the best in your self, improve the quality of your relationships and further your personal growth.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
