I'm a clinical psychologist with almost 30 years experience. I work with adults in individual and couple/
marital
therapy. Psychotherapy is an interactive process. Together we'll address current problems and examine the underlying causes. You'll probably feel better relatively quickly, but change takes time, and its best to give yourself a chance to make lasting changes. My style is interactive and exploratory. website: ronaviram.com

As we go through life we are exposed to innumerable experiences, both positive and negative, that determine the way we will feel about ourselves and how we chose to live our lives. Undoing the effect of the traumas we experience, big and small, requires much courage and self-awareness. With over 20 years of experience, I see myself as a therapist with whom you can feel safe to explore the deepest and most troubling aspects of your life, within an environment of acceptance and respect. I work with adults and couples in their search for a more fulfilling life.

My training is in psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy, and I treat a range of issues; depression, anxiety,
marital
and partnership difficulties, relationships, job and career, gender and sexual identity, parenting, fertility, sexual function, grief and mourning.
In my 25 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I have found that the key to important and lasting change comes from developing a trusting relationship. This finally allows one to feel safe enough to explore, understand, and ultimately move through tough past experiences that have stood in the way of growth, intimacy, success and feeling at peace with yourself and who you are.

I enjoy my work as I help individuals, adolescents and
marital
couples discover better ways of coping with their emotions.
Most adults enter psychotherapy because they are dissatisfied with certain aspects of their lives or certain aspects of their selves. Most want to change but don't know how. I find that as I provide an accepting, non-judgemental attitude to the understanding of their problems, individuals are able to uncover emotional blocks, untangle emotional confusions, and work toward developing more successful ways of being in their worlds.

Marriage
is a "people-growing machine.
I think you'll agree that there are times in your relationship when breaking up seems the only option. You've hit a wall, and you can't figure out how to get around it. Or you've made the same bad choice again, even though this time it looked so-o-o different. Or you find yourself ready to slap your child, because you've run out of other solutions. You've reached a choice point. That's when my clients come to me.

I have been a Licensed
Marriage
and Family Therapist for a very long time. I have much experience working with people of all ages, backgrounds, sexual orientation, and relationship issues. I do this work because it is very satisfying. And it is “work” for my clients as well. I know that my clients need courage and self awareness to recognize when they need to reach out for help. I consider the goal of therapy is to empower my clients to find solutions to solve the problems in their life—to get unstuck from unhealthy patterns in their life—unresolved and repetitive conflicts.

Entering therapy is a courageous but also an exciting step. To feel at home within oneself and to have a sense of freedom to truly live your life, not someone else's, is a wonderful and joyous goal to pursue. I am an EMDRIA Approved EMDR Consultant offering supervision and certification to other therapists and deep experience to my clients. I also have advanced training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy which in conjunction with EMDR is profoundly effective. I work with a full range of mood disorders, depression, anxiety, performance anxiety,
marital
and parenting concerns, career, and self esteem issues. I work with adults and adolescents.

Over the past 30 years my practice has included working with eating disorders, depression and anxiety, low motivation, individual psychoanalysis, and
marital
and couples therapy.
Some thoughts on Couples Therapy: Each person commits to growing individually in ways that enhance and improve the dynamics in the couple. Sex can be talked about, and is there a difference between privacy and secrecy? Most arguments are about the same thing. Learn what is below persistent struggles. My work is about helping people find creative, loving ways to approach growth and change in real time.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
