I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, trauma, grief , and relationship issues.
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. Are you feeling anxious about the future or stuck in the past? Do you put on a 'calm and collected' front so that others don't see you struggle? Do worries keep you up at night? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you've come to the right place. Often what keeps us stuck in distress are beliefs or old patterns of emotions. But amazing things can happen when we take a chance to try something new.

I believe that people thrive when they are authentically connected to themselves and each other. When these connections are disrupted by fear, trauma, depression, loss , or some life transition, it can be helpful to have a place to rediscover and repair those connections. Having a safe environment where an empathic presence and a constructive perspective are provided can help to restore stability, reinforce your strengths, and allow you to grow and build toward living your fullest life possible. My approach to psychotherapy is collaborative, practical, and goal oriented.

I work with people who are grieving the loss of their sense of self, and who are craving reconnection to their identity and desires.
With the overwhelming demands of life and work, we can often lose sense of who we are and feel as though we are going through the motions. Losing our sense of self, an important relationship, or even a loved one, can leave us feeling disconnected and alone. There is so much that demands our attention, it’s unclear where to start. If you are looking to heal and recover, hoping to reconnect with your inner joy, and searching for moments of peace, I might be able to help.

I have extensive work experience with individuals and families navigating diagnoses ranging from depression, anxiety, PTSD, and grief .
I understand that starting treatment can be difficult. That's why my goal as a therapist is to create a supportive and empathetic environment so that patients can feel as comfortable as possible navigating life's stressors. I believe that therapy is a collaborative effort between patient and therapist where together we will explore patterns, repetitive behaviors/thoughts and how traumatic experiences have shaped your decisions, beliefs and relationships. The therapeutic relationship can assist you in living more mindfully and help you challenge negative thought patterns.

I am a psychotherapist with 35+ years of experience. I believe the relationship between therapist and client is unique. This uniqueness develops when a person knows there is confidentiality and can safely talk about anxieties, sadness, loss and whatever is interfering with the person they wish to be. I have always felt clients personal problems are not the insurance companies business. Due to my experience I do not accept insurance and payment is out of pocket. Years ago before the pandemic I responded to a post from a therapist stating skype sessions were as beneficial as in-person sessions. The pandemic forced online sessions

I have special training in bereavement and in working with adult survivors of childhood trauma, incest, or family dysfunction, as well as the acute trauma of an injury, or for example, perinatal loss .
Maybe you’re isolating, overwhelmed, constantly triggered, or adjusting to something new, my job is to help you put it into words and find a way through. Perhaps it’s Covid stress, old or recent trauma, a loss , a relationship or a learning problem, or simply problems becoming your best self - I integrate both psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approaches, as well as continual study of new developments in the field to help. My style is warm, interactive and tailored to your needs. I see treatment as both an art, a science, and a unique conversation between two people whose focus is on your needs and your desires.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
