I work with people who are grieving the
loss
of their sense of self, and who are craving reconnection to their identity and desires.
With the overwhelming demands of life and work, we can often lose sense of who we are and feel as though we are going through the motions. Losing our sense of self, an important relationship, or even a loved one, can leave us feeling disconnected and alone. There is so much that demands our attention, it’s unclear where to start. If you are looking to heal and recover, hoping to reconnect with your inner joy, and searching for moments of peace, I might be able to help.

I am a psychotherapist with 35+ years of experience. I believe the relationship between therapist and client is unique. This uniqueness develops when a person knows there is confidentiality and can safely talk about anxieties, sadness,
loss
and whatever is interfering with the person they wish to be. I have always felt clients personal problems are not the insurance companies business. Due to my experience I do not accept insurance and payment is out of pocket. Years ago before the pandemic I responded to a post from a therapist stating skype sessions were as beneficial as in-person sessions. The pandemic forced online sessions

Felling unsatisfied in your relationships or career? Is your child or adolescent struggling with school or at home? Is anxiety getting in the way of identifying and realizing life goals and aspirations? Do you see yourself repeating various patterns and feel ill-equipped to change them? Learned patterns from the past can persist into adulthood and frustrate one's ability to realize age-appropriate goals with relationships, career issues, and impede academic success.

I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, trauma,
grief
, and relationship issues.
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. Are you feeling anxious about the future or stuck in the past? Do you put on a 'calm and collected' front so that others don't see you struggle? Do worries keep you up at night? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you've come to the right place. Often what keeps us stuck in distress are beliefs or old patterns of emotions. But amazing things can happen when we take a chance to try something new.

Welcome. For over 20 years, I've worked with individuals with depression, anxiety, life transitions, medical illness, disability and
loss
. I work from a mindfulness-based perspective, bringing a kind, compassionate, curious attitude to places of suffering and 'stuckness' in life, to move towards living more consistently in ways that matter to each individual. As the poet Rumi states, "This being human is a guest house," the task being how to invite all the guests, the difficulties, joys and all in between. I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. MBCT groups periodically available.

Have you been impacted by
loss
due to Covid 19? Is isolation and social distancing causing you loneliness, anxiety or conflict in your family?
Grief
and
mourning
are being experienced as never before. Our traditional ways of coping - through the participation in rituals and communal gatherings, the hugs of loved ones and being with family - have been upended. The reality of not being able to be with loved ones, especially those who are ill or dying is traumatic. We are also having to negotiate with our family in new ways. I can help you find a path through these challenges.

If you’re feeling frustrated, sad,
grief
, helpless, confused, “stuck”, or any other negative feeling that’s dragging you down, please know that there are solutions for you.
I have been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for a very long time. I have much experience working with people of all ages, backgrounds, sexual orientation, and relationship issues. I do this work because it is very satisfying. And it is “work” for my clients as well. I know that my clients need courage and self awareness to recognize when they need to reach out for help. I consider the goal of therapy is to empower my clients to find solutions to solve the problems in their life—to get unstuck from unhealthy patterns in their life—unresolved and repetitive conflicts.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
