I primarily work with adolescents, young adults and older adults, and have developed areas of expertise around mood and anxiety disorders, depression and self-esteem, traumatic experience, loss, identity questions, and parent-child relationships.
As a licensed clinical psychologist, my primary goal is to foster a safe, focused, and collaborative environment to help my patients understand themselves, their relationships, life/thought patterns and behaviors, in order to find healthy ways to manage and, ultimately, thrive. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental to this, and serves as a foundation for developing the insight to grow, as well as the coping strategies needed to tolerate discomfort and build new thought circuitry. I have a multi-theoretical training background, and I use this to tailor treatment to my patients individualized needs.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is especially effective in helping people who are able to function in the world, but who suffer from issues such as self-doubt, trouble with intimacy, unexplainable depressive moods and anxiety or inability to achieve career and/or relationship goals and to feel in control of their lives in spite of best efforts to do so.
I am a contemporary psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapist. Psychoanalytically trained therapists are caring, empathic people who really listen and respond. I will listen with the deepest empathy. I'll actively help you resolve painful emotions and conflicts, and we'll work together to find long-lasting solutions to what troubles your heart and mind. In the unique bond that forms in a truly therapeutic relationship, we'll embark on an important journey, exploring your conscious and unconscious feelings and thoughts, always linking past to present in order to resolve conflict and pain so you can live your life to its fullest.

I have experience in helping people with a wide range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety , eating disorders, relationship issues, and trauma.
Therapy can be a potent force in helping you to understand yourself and make meaningful changes in your life. It takes courage, however, to begin this process – a process of looking at the way you see yourself, of the way you approach relationships, of the way you make sense of the world around you. I believe it requires a supportive and trusting relationship to do that. I will respect the experiences that have led you to the place where you are. I will help you understand how you have gotten there. Together, we will work to get you to where you want to be.

My professional interests include working with individuals who have faced traumatic experiences of any nature; symptoms of anxiety and depression; difficulties stemming from troubled relationships and complicated family dynamics; bereavement; perinatal issues; and cultural issues.
Every individual’s motivation for seeking therapy is unique. I am sensitive to the specific goals that an individual has for the treatment, and frame recommendations accordingly. For some, therapy may involve a few, brief targeted consultations, while others may choose to engage in a longer term treatment. Regardless of the duration of treatment, I view the therapeutic relationship as providing the scaffolding to achieve one’s full potential, and resolve symptoms which often arise out of unresolved conflicts and anxieties.

Therapy is helpful when something in your life challenges your ability to live deeply and fully. In our work together we address what is in your way. It might be anxiety , depression, interpersonal issues, chronic stress, illness, trauma or something else unique to your history. Life presents many challenges, and finding the right support when you need it can make a huge difference. Everyone has the capacity to live with more clarity, connectedness and joy, and it's my pleasure to assist in enabling that.

I create a positive and empathetic environment where you can feel validated and empowered. My approach is to support you in breaking cycles to create healthier patterns of behavior. I see people with depression, anxiety , compulsive behaviors as well as traumatic histories and losses. Together, we will work to gain a deep understanding of your early and lifelong relationships, in which your struggles were formed. Additionally, I ask about how social, economic, gendered and racial issues frame your pain. I integrate a basic psycho-dynamic understanding integrated with trauma techniques, body work, hypnosis and cognitive behavioral work in individual and group therapy. Group therapy adds another layer of healing possibility through the camaraderie, clarity and empathy groups provide.

Navigating online profiles to find the right therapist can feel overwhelming and exhausting especially if you feel emotionally depleted. I understand the courage it takes to open up to a complete stranger since I've been there myself. Throughout my 20+ years as a therapist I have worked with individuals who have felt trapped in toxic romantic and/ or family relationships. Others have trust issues, social anxiety , depression and chronic illnesses. Some feel lonely and grapple with their ability to connect with others. More recently my work has also focused on depression and social isolation/ anxiety induced by the impact of Covid.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
