Contacting a therapist can feel awkward and scary. Be assured that your internal and external life can and will improve. We can work at a pace you feel comfortable with. We all want freedom from our emotional pain. Worries or anxiety,
anger
or depression, insomnia, relationship conflict or traumatic memories may lead to escape or excessive dependence upon externals like food, substances, events, experiences and relationships for relief. Escape never leads to peace. Thankfully, we all can learn to find a dependable source of peace inside, in our minds and hearts, no matter the external circumstances. I can help you get there.

In my Psychology Today blog, The Minute Therapist, I focus on how changing our thoughts and deeper, underlying beliefs can help us control troubling emotions and lead more effective lives. Many people are burdened by anxiety, phobias, stress, relationship problems, depression, insomnia,
anger
-related issues, and sexual dysfunctions. In cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), we directly address these problems to help people develop more adaptive behaviors and ways of thinking. CBT is a time-limited treatment and the most well-documented method of therapy in use today.

anger
, neglect or criticism became limiting or traumatic.
Building our trusting relationship is the surest way I know to reduce your anxiety, depression, and quiet those punishing parts of yourself that seem to threaten your confidence and safety. We work together to make room to experience yourself in new ways, to feel the ground under your feet. Our relationship opens pathways to your life to feel your better self. Doubt, fear and depression will be lessened. Relationships will evolve, and options will open. We will talk and challenge automatic thoughts. As we go through life we are exposed to innumerable experiences, both positive and negative, that determine the way we will feel about ourselves and how we chose to live our lives. Undoing the effect of the traumas we experience, big and small, requires much courage and self-awareness. With over 20 years of experience, I see myself as a therapist with whom you can feel safe to explore the deepest and most troubling aspects of your life, within an environment of acceptance and respect. I work with adults and couples in their search for a more fulfilling life.

I believe that people suffering with worry, isolation,
anger
, painful histories, and other feelings, can struggle to shape positive relationships.
I have a warm, sensitive, and interactive approach, which cultivates a rich discussion about what brings you to therapy. Discussion creates greater self-awareness. I believe that having a place in your life where you can say all your feelings and thoughts, and feel understood, is very important. Then, you can learn about the choices you've been making, and work on deciding what you want to continue, and what you want to alter.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
