I received my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the St. John’s University after receiving my Bachelor’s in Psychology with a concentration in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) at the SUNY Binghamton University. In addition to private practice, I have experience working in school settings predominantly with children holding a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), providing at-home services to children with ASD, and working in an inpatient mental health facility. I have an eclectic therapeutic approach utilizing evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and mindfulness-based practices.
My passion for therapy stems from my belief that it’s powerful and healing to have a space to be heard and supported while addressing challenges and achieving goals. I work with adults of all ages and walks of life who want to live a happier and more satisfying and productive life. Many of my clients are navigating life transitions, trying to understand their career and relationship goals, learning how best to respond to daily stress, anxiety, and challenges, and striving to improve their relationships, mental health, emotions, and self-esteem. Together, we will clarify your goals and develop insight, skills, and self-compassion.
I am a cognitive behavioral therapist with experience helping children and adults feel better emotionally, behave more functionally and experience long-lasting change. I specialize in anxiety and depression, and employ a present-oriented, structured therapy that involves problem solving, mindfulness and looking at things from a new, more helpful perspective. I also employ outcome measures so we can closely gauge our progress, without having to make vague estimates. I studied applied psychology at New York University, and went on to receive my Doctor of Psychology at St. John's University where I received intensive CBT training.
My practice centers on acceptance and creating a safe place to explore roadblocks to freedom. I hope to support clients towards authenticity of who they were designed to be. Through a holistic approach I account for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing in how they all cooperate and balance together.
I believe we all strive to be the best versions of ourselves, sometimes we just need a bit of guidance getting there. I am a licensed psychotherapist who has a great deal of experience working with adolescents and adults who have been confronted with anxiety or depression symptoms in addition to those facing the challenges of adjusting to ever shifting and changing life circumstances whether at work, in the family or in important relationships.
It is empowering to feel heard, understood and validated, to be recognized as a well-intentioned person, family member and member of your community. I view therapy as a process in which a person explores their thoughts, feelings, beliefs and relationships. In this process they find both characteristics of resilience and strength as well as unwanted or ineffective patterns that have developed over their lifetime. When guided by a well-trained, ethical and compassionate therapist what is learned can be applied to today's problems.
Are you experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety? Would you like more fulfilling relationships? Do you have trouble managing your feelings? I can help you with those challenges. My style is supportive and interactive, and I use a wide variety of cognitive, interpersonal, and psychodynamic techniques with clients. In addition to the usual therapy issues, if you have used or are considering using assisted conception (IVF, donor egg, donor sperm, etc.) to build your family, I have a great deal of expertise with this and can help you to sort out any related questions, parenting concerns, and challenges you may have about them.
Welcome to my practice. I have been helping individuals, couples, and families resolve interpersonal and intrapsychic issues for more than 30 years. In addition to maintaining a full time private practice in New York City, I am on the faculty, a training analyst, and a senior supervisor at the Institute of the Postgraduate Psychoanalytic Society and a supervisor at the Postgraduate Institute Group Training Program. I am a former co-director of training for The Center for Anorexia and Bulimia.
I am well trained and seasoned by lots of life experience - you can talk to me about anything. A commitment to having a great life, combined with an openness to the support of others, makes anything possible. Being a therapist is my second profession; taken up after working in the investment banking business for more than twenty years. I have raised a family in New York City and have four grown children. Couples therapy, anger managment, addictions, and making major life changes are some of the areas in which I collaborate with my clients.
The amount of energy you spend managing your food, managing your impulses, managing your negative body image is unsustainable. It’s exhausting! Some days, finding something that you can tolerate wearing is virtually impossible. You end up with a crumpled pile of clothing on your bed – a mound of misery that will have to be dealt with when you get home tonight. Still, you can’t stop. No matter how miserable this is, no matter how many times you promise yourself that this is the last time – there is always another. Another meal you just can’t eat… Another binge you just can’t resist. Another weight you have to reach.
Have you wondered if your child or teen would benefit from therapy? I offer a complimentary consultation to discuss any questions you may have. As a senior therapist at Zackson Psychology Group, I enjoy working with children and adolescents that may be struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral or family issues. You can talk to me about anything; nothing will surprise me. I am accessible to parents and easy to talk to. I focus on your child, recognize their strengths, and develop tools to become their own therapist by learning how to deal with challenges. Children often feel better early on in treatment.
