Hi! I’m so glad you’re here and taking this important step toward improved wellbeing. I strive to meet every person at where they currently are in their healing journey. I have experience working with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, identity concerns, relationship issues, and neurodiversity, among others. As a queer, Latinx therapist, I recognize the importance of addressing the nuances of intersectional identities and the impact of oppressive systems. While I specialize in working with those part of the LGBTQ+ community, I welcome individuals of any identity and background.

I work primarily from a psychodynamic perspective, believing that each person’s life story affects his or her present experience, while also integrating other approaches (CBT, humanistic, relational therapy, family systems), according to your particular needs.
Welcome to my practice. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist and help adults struggling with a variety of issues including anxiety, stress and life transitions, as well as those who are simply interested in self-exploration. No matter what brings you to pursue support at this time, I prioritize establishing a trusting, safe and respectful space in session and strive to help you get out of therapy whatever it is you are seeking from the experience.

My approach to treatment pulls techniques from Exposure Response Prevention, CBT, Mindfulness, Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
Are your anxious feelings becoming an issue? Do you feel as though your thoughts are intrusive and overwhelming? Have you noticed any decrease in socializing or indulgence in once fun hobbies/activities? Are your thoughts and behaviors more obsessive and repetitive than you’d like them to be? Do you ever feel like nothing will change and you’ll be like this forever? My practice can help you gain more insight to how you’re feeling and how that leads to your behaviors. Together, we can accomplish this by exploring and applying techniques to help you achieve the way you want to live your life.

I utilize a variety of approaches in my work with clients, while tailoring each treatment plan to the individual and incorporating the goals that each person brings to treatment. Each person is unique and that is why I choose an integrative approach in my work. I incorporate both interpersonal and psychodynamic modalities with cognitive behavioral treatments in an effort to target both insight building and positive behavioral changes.

As a long-term Buddhist practitioner, I bring a compassionate approach to psychotherapy and psychoanalysis that includes a mindful exploration of trauma, addiction, and personal narratives that constrict one's self-image and lived potential.

With 40 years of clinical practice experience, I can help you gain insight into yourself, your feelings, your symptoms and behaviors. I have expertise in helping people who suffer from panic attacks, anxiety, depression, loneliness, fear, trauma, grief, relationship problems, and work issues. I can help you to change that which you choose to change. I am warm, empathic, and understanding. Although it is difficult to take that first step, it is eventually rewarding to have the freedom that comes from understanding yourself better and making choices that benefit your life. I mainly use an insight oriented psychodynamic approach.

I work from a humanistic and relational psychodynamic perspective, but believe in tailoring therapy to fit you.
Whatever brings you to therapy, I welcome your whole self into the room. Some of what brings you here may be hard to talk about. Maybe you have learned to cope with emotional pain in ways that are now hurting you or your relationships. You may be struggling with relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, sexuality, identity issues, or trying to sort out the impact of painful past experiences. We can work together to better understand your experiences and learn new ways to be with all of your feelings that free you to experience greater meaning and connection in your life.

Integrating elements of IFS, CBT, DBT, ACT, psychodynamic , and mindfulness practices, I aim to facilitate a process with three distinct objectives: identifying and reframing negative thought patterns, developing a stronger awareness of self, and bolstering autonomy and ability in developing the skills necessary to accomplish desired goals and find wellbeing.
Clients often begin therapy from an overwhelmed, entangled headspace, knowing innately there’s something they would like to work towards, but feeling uncertain of what that journey may look like. I strive to join you where you’re at, providing a safe, non-judgmental space to be heard. We will work together to uncover insights and gain clarity, drawing upon your own unique strengths, capabilities, and sense of self. My approach is eclectic and collaborative, beginning with your goals and hopes for treatment, and incorporating creative methods to work together in this pursuit. Our sessions are tailored to best suit your unique needs.

Sigmund Freud said, “Love and work are the cornerstones of our humanness.” Indeed, these two themes are often what bring people to therapy and may underlie symptoms of depression and anxiety. How does one enter and maintain relationships? What is the dynamic that my partner and I co-create and how do we alter that? Does my work align with my values? Does my perfectionism get in the way of living a full and vital life? A clinician for over 20 years, my approach is practical and strength-based, helping people from all walks of life develop the skills to effectively address immediate concerns, as well as long-standing problems.

I am a psychodynamic therapist and I use a combination of evidence-based modalities, including mindfulness, DBT, CBT, ACT, IFS, and insight-oriented therapy.
I believe that therapy is both an art and a science, and that every individual is unique. I find that people often come to therapy with the hope of eliminating painful emotions, and with the belief that they cannot tolerate negative feelings. While I understand the desire to escape overwhelming emotions, my goal is not to help my clients suppress their emotions, but rather to help them develop the skills to co-exist and thrive with them. I partner with clients to help them develop practical tools to manage emotions, to feel better, and to overcome barriers which prevent them from achieving their personal goals.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
