I'm eclectic in my approach; my postgraduate training was in adult psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
As a therapist for over 20 years I have worked with an array of young people, older adults and creative people including artists, musicians, photographers, and writers. In my work with individuals, I believe in a collaborative approach and try to provide a non-judgmental and safe setting for exploring feelings and concerns in depth. I try through this process of identifying and understanding areas of difficulty to help individuals become more self-reflective and better able to affect change in their everyday lives.

My approach includes cognitive behavioral techniques and psychodynamic perspectives; I have worked with diverse populations and concerns, and have discovered that we have the key within ourselves to make the right choices.
Be the author of your own life. My primary goal as a therapist is to help my clients remove the barriers to self-acceptance, achieve independence, and make choices that are in ones own best interest in order to lead a more self-directed life. The more dependent you are, the more removed you are from your own reality. The more independent you are, the more you go through life with your eyes open.Together we will form strategies and use practical tools to overcome obstacles and take the action needed to achieve your goals and realize your full potential.

My approach is combining psychodynamic with psychoanalytic skills.
In our lives, we all go through times when we feel anxious, overwhelmed and depressed. We all face difficulties and feel confused about moving on. We all have times hesitate on making decisions. Therapy is a place for people to understand themselves better. It’s a place where people can feel safe to explore their difficulties and find a way to cope with their problems and issues.

These include a psychodynamic approach as well as cognitive, behavioral and interpersonal.
My approach to therapy is empathic and non-judgemental. I work toward helping a person feel safe to say everything and believe that therapy heals largely through the power of the therapeutic relationship. Therapy provides valuable insight into ourselves. When we become conscious of who we are and what we are feeling and thinking we are able to make better choices and lead happier more productive lives.

While I operate from a primarily psychodynamic background, I have experience integrating a variety of mindfulness and skills-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed approaches, such as Internal Family Systems.
Have you been struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or relationship/family issues? Has it felt like you've tried everything, but your usual ways just aren't working anymore? If you want help working through the stressors that life brings, you have come to the right place. My approach is first founded on empathy and building a mutual, non-judgmental understanding of the patterns in your life that are contributing to your distress. From there, therapy is tailored based on your individual needs, goals, and preferences.

Psychodynamic treatment weaves a rich texture of past and present, fantasy and reality, working in great detail on one's life.
Psychoanalytic therapy is often maligned in popular media but it remains for me one of the few treatments that seeks to address the innermost, often hidden, parts of ourselves. Psychological symptoms are not only a source of suffering, they are also a message that speaks to desires, conflicts, and pain, wrought by a personal history that can sometimes only come alive when spoken to a professional listening other. The flip-side of anxiety is always a passionate dream that has not been encountered as such. I see my work as bringing my clients closer to that possibility. The intimacy of speaking and listening is rare and a gift.

I use psychodynamic therapy with a humanistic and relational approach.
The road to self discovery and healing starts with a brave step forward. I facilitate a safe space where you can address any challenges and gain awareness into past patterns that may be affecting your present. You’ll explore ways fear or internal conflicts interfere with your life goals, relationships, and overall quality of life. Through this process, you’ll be able to recognize triggers and work towards breaking unhealthy cycles.

While my overall approach to therapy is guided by contemporary psychodynamic principles, I work in a flexible and individualized manner, always within the context of a strong therapeutic relationship.
There are points in our lives that offer unique opportunities for change and growth. Often these moments are accompanied by painful emotions such as fear, worry, anger, or sadness. This is particularly true in today’s trying times where our familiar routines and usual sources of coping have been disrupted. However, it is precisely these times of struggle that can fuel true personal growth, if you are willing to engage in therapy.

My practice is guided by an eclectic framework, blending elements of psychodynamic theory, a relational focus, and a client-centered philosophy that prioritizes meeting the client where they are. In my work, I like to refer my clients to relevant materials, such as literature, experiential exercises, workbooks, podcasts, and smartphone apps. These materials ensure that you get the most out of your therapy experience. I have experience working with people of color, the LGBTQ community, and other such marginalized groups. I also have experience working with couples, individuals with personality disorders, and more.

My approach to therapy is from a trauma-focused perspective and psychodynamic approach to help you identify some of the causes for your feelings.
“Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn’t mean you can, should, or need to do it alone.” -Lisa Olivera. Do you find yourself constantly worrying, stressed, or like you are trapped, and you cannot seem to escape? Do you sometimes feel like no one understands you? You do not have to struggle in silence. I am pleased that you have taken the first step in addressing your concerns. In my practice, I provide a safe and non-judgemental space for you to be able to share whatever is on your mind and where we can explore your concerns together. Let’s sit down and talk!

I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT for insomnia (CBT-I), humanistic, psychodynamic , and mindfulness-based interventions into my practice.
Sometimes it feels like we're moving through life on auto-pilot. With work and other stressors, it is hard to find time to slow down, to breathe, to focus on the present. I believe therapy is about letting go of the things we are trying to control and making choices towards a more fulfilling life. To facilitate this, I help clients openly face life’s challenges and create lasting changes. I offer a collaborative, non-judgmental, and safe space for my clients to facilitate behavior change and self-exploration.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
