I am trained in many different modalities including
psychodynamic
psychotherapy, open dialogue/dialogic practice, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).
Whether you are struggling with a life transition, feeling overwhelmed, or finding yourself stuck in unproductive patterns, talking it out with a non-judgmental person can help. My clinical training has focused on many forms of human suffering, however I have particular experience in helping people work through anxiety, depression, and experiences commonly called "psychosis" (such as hearing voices, anomalous experiences, mania, suspiciousness, and extreme states). Additionally, I have extensive experience working therapeutically with people who are neurodivergent.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from behavioral, relational, and
psychodynamic
modalities.
I am a licensed psychologist who specializes in the treatment of disordered eating, body image dissatisfaction, and mood and anxiety disorders. I work best with clients who are open to a Health At Every Size approach and/or who are in a more sustained eating disorder recovery. I strive to create a warm, compassionate, non-judgmental environment where we can work collaboratively on healing unresolved issues, strengthening your sense of self, and helping you live your fullest life now.

Additionally, I have a speciality in couples counseling and trained in the Gottman Method and Sue Johnson's Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. I consider myself an EFT therapist.

My approach is trauma informed from a strengths-based perspective that incorporates the use of
psychodynamic
practice, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, mindfulness, and support of the mind-body connection to compliment your own experiences and unique identity.
Despite the adversity and struggles we face, there’s often a place of hope and light in ourselves that we overlook. Taking the time to prioritize oneself takes strength and presents the opportunity to recognize one’s ability to grow. Together, we can understand and learn how to better manage the barriers that present themselves and that can get in the way of you attaining the quality of life you deserve.

You are more powerful than you realize and often shape the outcomes you experience in life. Sometimes those outcomes are other than what you want; or they don't live up to your expectations. Your contributions may be unconscious, or perhaps rooted in ineffective thinking. I help you understand your contributions to those outcomes. My job: to help you own your power, think through, and shape your outcomes. How long will you be with me? Just long enough to get the job done; my career is in this office, not yours! My thinking is
psychodynamic
and work style, eclectic.

When starting therapy it's important to choose someone you feel comfortable with and can trust. I like to start by meeting once or twice to see if we are a good match. Together we will address the problem that brings you into therapy and establish a treatment direction designed to meet your goals. My orientation is
Psychodynamic
and my style is supportive, interactive and collaborative. Successful therapy can either be a short or long term process and I belive that it's important to periodically touch base to make sure that your needs are being met.

My approach to therapy is
psychodynamic
, connecting with my client and getting to know them as a whole person.
I know how difficult it can be to open up to someone about your most vulnerable, hidden self. This step is often the hardest to take, and taking it means facing thoughts and feelings you'd rather not— but it also means creating a path of healing for yourself. I strive to provide you with a safe, therapeutic space filled with compassion and empathy to support you while we take on this challenge. Together, we will begin to explore the thoughts and experiences that cause you pain. The important thing to remember is that you don't have to do it alone.

While my therapeutic approach is primarily
psychodynamic
, I also use mindfulness-based strategies that are effective for managing difficult emotions.
In a world as demanding and fast-paced as ours, it can be easy to lose sight of what is most important to us. Maybe your relationships seem unfulfilling, the activities that you used to enjoy feel dull, or you’re having trouble relaxing at the end of the day. Noticing that your needs are not being met and deciding to seek the help of a supportive and accepting professional are the first steps of creatively reimagining the patterns in your life that make you feel stuck.

Are you seeking resilience in uncertain times? My approach to therapy combines
psychodynamic
training with CBT, finding practical solutions to problems. This means that you and I will work together to find both the "why" of what you bring to therapy (childhood development, history, and social context) and the "what" (how to change what you want to change). I tend to work with high achievers who feel there is something lacking in their personal lives and relationships. I work with adults, as well as adolescents in high school or college/graduate school. I see both individuals and couples who want to make meaningful changes.

I work with individuals and couples and primarily draw from
Psychodynamic
and Gestalt modalities to gain insight as well as CBT and Mindfulness to help you use to tools you need to sustain progress.
Whether you are feeling anxious, fearful, stuck, or seeking to improve the quality of your relationships, I can offer guidance in resolving inner conflict and living authentically. Together we will work to uncover underlying causes of distress, examining old stories that keep you stuck, and moving away from unhealthy patterns, thus creating freedom and fluidity. Psychotherapy has the power to be a metamorphic experience, and my aim is to create a warm, accepting environment to help you gain insight and navigate away from behaviors that get in the way of personal fulfillment.

I use an integrative, individualized approach drawing from relational,
psychodynamic
, cognitive-behavioral and trauma-focused therapies.
Creating an empathetic, nonjudgmental and collaborative space for growth and healing is my primary objective as a therapist. Who you are and what you have experienced is unique, and so will be your path to healing. I offer both short-term treatment to resolve a specific problem in your life, or longer-term talk therapy to delve into deeper issues that impact your relationships or mental and emotional wellbeing.

Through a
psychodynamic
approach, I can help you break toxic cycles and cultivate healthy relationships.
Are you currently navigating life transitions, experiencing stress, depression, or anxiety? You don't have to face these challenges alone. Let me hold a safe and supportive space for you to process your emotions and experiences. Together, we can work towards developing healthier coping mechanisms and self-care practices. In my work with families and adolescents, I've seen the impact of childhood experiences on our adult lives. These experiences manifest in our relationships, attachment styles, and personal beliefs.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
