We cannot change what happens to us, but we absolutely can change how we experience and respond to it. We all develop survival strategies to cope with the problems we have in life, but sometimes these strategies do not serve us well, or they end up harming our relationships. If you feel stuck: bogged down by thoughts and feelings that cause you to suffer, or trapped in an unhealthy
relationship
dynamic with a
partner
or family member, do not lose hope. I can help you become more aware of your internal emotional experience and work towards positive change.

One of the greatest gifts therapy has to offer is the empowerment and flexibility to move through and beyond your experiences. Together, therapy can be a space for reflection, discovery, skill building and greater understanding of self and the world around you. Exploring the pillars of a person's journey should be a holistic experience. As a practice, respecting one's personal, environmental, religious, spiritual and cultural beliefs can be a pathway to establish rich conversations while forming a
relationship
.

I believe that we are equipped with incredible resilience. While we cannot control the obstacles and challenges that life throws our way, we have a tremendous ability to choose how to react to them. Through the quality of our relationships, mindfulness, and acceptance, we have more power than we realize in improving the quality of our lives. Through my clinical training, I have worked extensively with the LGBTQ community. I have experience counseling individuals,
couples
, and groups.

For many people, therapy offers an inviting space to share thoughts and feelings one might not feel safe to share in other relationships. Others may view therapy as a sign of failure in not being able to solve life problems on one's own. I have worked with individuals at both ends of this spectrum. I often treat individuals who find it hard to know what they want in life and easily lose themselves with others, those who struggle to find love, and who suffer from feelings of worthlessness and emptiness. I am particularly adept in working with trauma, loss,
relationship
conflicts, destructive habits and family issues.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
