I have a passion for working with couples at all stages of the life cycle. Premaritals, empty nesters, LGBT couples, couples with young children seeking to balance parenting with time for self and partner, couples needing support around sexuality and commitment issues, couples at a crossroads.... Much of my early therapeutic training was in Hospice bereavement counseling. Through that experience I became drawn to therapeutic encounters with the potential for spiritual renewal. In recent years I've connected with that initial sense of generativity and meaning through the practice of couples therapy, most notably in work as a premarital counselor.

The bond with a therapist is at the heart of the therapeutic process. Building trust, having a safe space and connecting are paramount. Today, more people than ever suffer with depression, anxiety, trauma, parenting difficulties/poor relationships and weight issues among other areas. They often feel SO stuck and unfulfilled. Clients come to me to make major changes. Therapy/Coaching are active processes. I provide a safe space for clients to be vulnerable, talk about painful issues/memories and grow/heal and push their limits. I know what it takes because I've also done it. I embrace the opportunity to help others to grow.

I offer co- parenting mediation, culminating in a written agreement provided to both parties.
On any given day, we can be impacted by people or events, creating ripples in our lives. But, the more deeply we connect with our own internal values and rhythms, the more solid our footing. With perception, humor and compassion, I value giving you the opportunity to safely explore your inner stories, fears and dreams. My hope is that you will find the validation, support and perspective necessary to create the change you so desire. I have extensive experience working with children, individuals and families with histories of trauma, facing difficult life transitions, such as creating and blending families, adoption, separation, divorce, death and loss.

In addition to more traditional parent -infant treatment, I am now incorporating into my practice an empirically tested approach called Watch, Wait and Wonder, which uses a free-play format to engage parents to be reflective about the child's inner world and about their own responses to the child.
I am a licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of a range of relational, behavioral, regulatory, and developmental challenges that parents and infants may face in the first few years of life. As a trained parent -infant therapist, I can help parent -infant pairs who have gotten off to a difficult start or who have developed difficulties later.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
