Having
OCD
or anxiety can make make every day tasks seem nearly impossible. It can sap you of your energy and ability to enjoy the things you love. On top of that, you likely have harsh judgements about having anxiety, leading to frustration and sadness. Maybe you've tried therapy in the past but nothing seems to stick. Having worked with so many people who have suffered with these conditions, I hear and feel what you are going through. I have dedicated my career to helping you understand your anxiety and build the skills to address it.

Therapy is a wonderful opportunity to gain a deeper sense of understanding and fulfillment in your life. By exploring your thoughts, feelings and behaviors you will begin to develop more self-awareness and self-acceptance. We often find ourselves feeling stuck, unmotivated, anxious or depressed. Therapy provides an opportunity to gain insight, heal from past wounds and work towards your goals in a supportive and collaborative environment. Using a variety of treatment techniques including mindfulness, psychodynamic and evidence based practices, I work collaboratively with you to explore ways to achieve a happier and healthier life.

The parts of ourselves that we struggle with are sometimes our greatest assets. Therapy can be a place to better realize our strengths and identify where long-term patterns of narratives and behaviors are no longer serving us. I am passionate about working with LGBTQ and POC on topics such as: gender/sexual identity, anxiety, depression,
OCD
, acculturation, racial identity, social skills, and relationships. My therapeutic approach incorporates both systemic and relational pieces. We do not exist in a vacuum. All of our experiences shape the person we are today.

OCD
and anxiety. It can feel as if your
OCD
or anxiety are controlling your life. But, there is hope. Exposure and Response Prevention (ExRP) is the most effective way to treat
OCD
. It can help you regain control of your life.

My favorite part of being a therapist is the continuously evolving relationship that I foster with my clients. I love learning about my clients – everything that makes them who they are, from their interests to their cultural influences to their friends and family, and how all of this impacts the way they view the world. I am passionate about assisting clients who suffer from anxiety, relationship issues, and
OCD
, but also love to work with clients with a variety of other concerns including addictions, depression, self-esteem, trauma, and more. I provide counseling that is culturally competent and LGBTQ+ affirming.

I treat
OCD
and Anxiety in people of all ages, with a particular passion for working with young adults.
I believe that taking the first step towards therapy is an act of courage. Sometimes it's easy to 'know' on some level that something about your life isn't working, but breaking out of an unhealthy pattern is the hard part. I aim to create a warm and nonjudgmental space to allow you to examine what is causing you to feel stuck, and challenge you to show up differently. Sessions can help you feel less anxious, and more confident and clear, as you learn how to better manage day to day challenges and feel more connected within your relationships, to self and others.

OCD
and anxiety disorders and I'm capable of treating a wide range of issues as there is often overlap. I tend to begin by getting to know you, what brought you to therapy and what potential goals you have for therapy in order for us to have a collaborative approach and relationship. I often integrate cognitive behavior tools into the work to help identify problematic patterns in life as well as ways to interrupt these patterns and make change. Other approaches I include over time are providing psycho-education and mindfulness.

Feelings of emotional pain, depression or anxiety, alert us that important needs are not being met. When needs are not met we feel vulnerable and require protection. As a psychoanalyst I work with the whole person to find less taxing forms of protection so that fears, social withdrawal or repetitive attempts at safety become less necessary. I encourage relaxed communication at a very comfortable pace to nurture a greater sense of safety so your drive for freedom naturally leads you to the life you want. I work to resolve depression, creative blocks,
OCD
, trauma, romantic difficulties, and problems at work.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
