Anxiety and depression may be holding you back in different areas of your life. Perhaps you are having difficulty managing your stress at work or have been feeling disconnected. Maybe you are struggling with finding a
partner
or are experiencing increased loneliness. Maybe you feel a sense of sadness or are feeling stuck and do not know how to get beyond these feelings. Because emotions are complicated and often not within our conscious awareness, they can cause issues in many aspects of our lives and impact how we feel about ourselves.

When life's journeys takes an unexpected shift, many of us hold on to what is familiar, routine and predictable. Our lives can become stagnant, and growth can seem like a distant dream. I can guide you as you navigate through these overwhelming experiences, and find the courage to move forward with life's goals and journey. I am great at creating a warm, respectful and safe environment that gently encourages you to speak about issues that you want to focus on.

Starting therapy can be a difficult decision. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed and stuck, anxious, depressed, or struggling with your job or
relationship
. You may have a lack of clarity or a nagging emptiness inside you, or an inability to be alone with yourself. Maybe you feel like you can't burden your friends or family with the difficult parts of you. I view therapy as an opportunity to explore aspects of yourself and your experience that you may not have put into words, don't understand, or can't let go of. It provides you with another who can help you work with your emotions, so they become less overwhelming and distressing.

Some of the groups with which I have had especially extensive experience are: survivors of sexual abuse and abusive relationships; creative and performing artists; mental health professionals and students; individuals facing the challenges of midlife and beyond; adolescents and their families; and
couples
at all stages of the life cycle.
People most often contact me when a critical life event has occurred. They may be feeling anxious or depressed, or have become newly aware of a need to make changes in the way they handle their relationships, emotions, and self-esteem. For some, this is the beginning of a long journey of self-exploration. Others prefer to seek new, more effective tools to address the immediate situation. I think that a good clinician should be able to tailor the treatment to fit the needs and preferences of the client. Too often it is the other way around.

We must feel seen, heard and understood to be able to make change in our lives. Because of this, I believe that the therapeutic
relationship
is the most important aspect of treatment. I will work with you to identify thoughts, beliefs and patterns no longer serving you, and to better understand, navigate and release challenging emotions. We will develop skills to help you move through difficulty, and find healing and greater fulfillment. Together, we can explore and work through painful and traumatic experiences so that you can reconnect to your true self and live more authentically, no matter what comes up.

"I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood." - Audre Lorde. As people, we have a deep need to be understood, and one of the most profound ways to do this is in a safe, trusting therapeutic
relationship
. As a therapist, I work with individuals &
couples
using a psychodynamic approach. My role is to help you identify your needs and put your inner experience at the center, engaging both mind and body, so that barriers to your well-being can be lifted.

Ideally, therapy has been shown to have the best outcomes when you feel like your therapist gets you. Therapy is a
relationship
, rather than a set of instructions. My approach is warm, interactive, practical, and empathic, and I draw from relational, feminist, trauma-informed, anti-racist treatment models. I believe in the healing power of the therapeutic
relationship
, along with helping you contextualize your life experiences, honoring your expertise in your own life.

Through my training in social work at Boston University, I developed the skills to work with clients facing social and emotional challenges such as: depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, self advocacy and family and
relationship
difficulties.
I (she/her/hers/ella) believe that therapy should be accessible, trauma-informed and should help people lead lives that interest and challenge them. My therapeutic approaches are rooted in social justice with an emphasis on exploration through learning and storytelling. I believe that everyone is an expert on their own lives and that clients are best supported when they are engaged in shaping their therapeutic experiences. I support clients who identify as Latinx, queer/trans/GNC and/or neurodivergent, have an intellectual disability, as well as young adults.

My practice is diverse and my approach for individuals and
couples
is uniquely tailored to their needs and challenges.
My years of psychodynamic work have brought me full circle to the realization that patterns of fear and doubt are most often at the core of one's desire for seeking help. Along with this awareness is the keen understanding that there are blueprints & pathways to enable one to move beyond these challenging states of being. Applied Attachment Theory provides a lens as well as a portal to transform insecurities when it is combined with eclectic models of developmental trauma designed to concurrently address the fears embedded in one's mind and nervous system. Hence, a psycho-biological integrative approach for transformation!

Achieving optimal well-being relies on validating relationships built on trust and authenticity, forming a strong therapeutic alliance. I specialize in addressing complex challenges individuals and
couples
face in navigating intimacy and interpersonal connections. Patients want interconnectedness and revitalization, countering emotional isolation, depression, and anxiety. In the face of ruptures, emotional detachment breeds solitude and disharmony. With specialized knowledge, I guide transformative journeys, helping patients rediscover vitality and meaningful connections in all areas of life. Together, we foster an enduring bond.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
