I have experience working with individuals navigating trauma (including familial, religious, racial, immigration, and intergenerational trauma), disordered eating, body image concerns, relationship issues, experiences of violence, mood disorders, and career related stressors.
Therapy can be a space of transformation, healing, and hope, and this work begins with co-creating a space where you feel comfortable and safe bringing all versions of yourself. In my work with clients, we address the ways in which they feel stuck in their lives and what liberation and contentment means to them. Drawing from my academic, professional, and lived experience, I help individuals navigate identity-based explorations, including gender and sexuality, multiple ethnic/geographical/cultural identities, disability, and neurodivergence.

Our work together will be rooted in unpacking trauma and childhood experiences, unlearning negative self-talk, learning new coping mechanisms for self-soothing, and working on healing unhealthy relationship patterns.
I’m a firm believer that our life experiences play a role in the ways we exist in the world. I’m passionate about creating a space for folks to gain insight into how their life experiences are impacting their well-being and and how to cultivate more connection, vulnerability, and safety in their lives. Understanding your own story is the foundation for a happier and fuller life and I aim to create an environment where you can get to know yourself a bit more.

I work with adults, children, and couples who are seeking insight into the root causes of their suffering. We experiment with new understandings for persistent problems, allowing curiosity and empathy to lead the way. As your desires, conflicts, and feelings about yourself and others come to the surface, we look closely at them, and see how they connect to what you are dealing with now. This can change the nature of problems, and sometimes, liberate you from them entirely.

I like to think of therapy as a long walk taken together, that becomes more meaningful as our relationship grows, and discovery becomes less frightening and more full of curiosity.
I believe that people come to therapy because they want to change their life for the better. I work with individuals to lighten sadness, grief or anxiety, or to gain a greater understanding of one's self. I believe that the root causes of difficulty are developmental or situational, circumstantial, or a trauma. I strive to provide a non-judgmental, nurturing, safe space to explore insights, strengths and challenges. I specialize with multi-cultural and multi-racial adults, expatriates, those in multi-racial relationships, and those struggling with anxiety, depression, personality disorders and addiction.

Over the past 17 years, I have helped individuals, couples , and families grow and heal and find happiness.
There can be great joy in learning how to take the necessary but difficult steps to lead a more purposeful life. If you have been struggling in some part of your life - whether it be to improve your relationships, manage conflict better, learn how to communicate with others in healthier ways, overcome codependent and unhealthy patterns in life, or create more self-care - you may feel overwhelmed or unsure what to do. You might feel like your whole world is falling apart and turned upside down. It probably feels daunting! And you may be wondering if there is anyone that is able to help you. But, I am so glad you are here.

My specialty is in all aspects of loss, as reflected in relationship and family conflicts, sexual concerns and difficulties, and the emotional impact of medical illness, infertility, and bereavement.
After more than 35 years in practice, I have found that most clients need a combination of support, insight, and challenging interactions to help them grow and move past whatever obstacles they are facing. I work with individuals and couples on the most intimate aspects of their lives, including their sexuality, relationships, and life and death issues. My style is interactive, and employs uncovering family of origin dynamics, but also more practical, cognitive and behavioral methods to help make changes more quickly.

Our suffering is self-protective in that it communicates to us that change is necessary in our relationship to ourselves, to others, and the greater world. For over 15 years, I have worked with individuals of diverse backgrounds, ages and sexual orientations to harness their innate movement toward growth. I collaborate with you so we can directly approach, understand, and work through obstacles that prevent you from taking on life's challenges and fully experiencing its joys. These may be distressing feelings, problems in relationships with others, or negative beliefs you have about yourself.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
