In my life’s journey I have come to find that healing which does not address a person holistically—their mind, body, and spirit, as well as the conditions that they live in (culture, systems of oppression, etc.) and their ancestral story does not get to the root of the issue. Traditional forms of talk therapy can offer a level of awareness (often limited to Western, rational, cognitive awareness) to alleviate some symptoms, but healing means to make whole, and by not treating the wholeness of the person we are not uncovering the wholeness of the pain, so how can we expect change to fully occur?
