Welcome. My name is Allie. I specialize in couples/marriage counseling, anxiety disorders, men's issues and
adolescent
issues. With couples therapy, we work together to identify gaps in communication and fix persistent relational patterns that leave both parties feeling: "this argument is going nowhere." For individuals, we will explore unconscious patterns/behaviors in relationships with others and with yourself, and by doing so we will lessen the level of distress/anxiety you are finding yourself or your relationship in. I help all patients gain a life-long ability to self-reflect internally and build more connected lives.

I have trained in child and
adolescent
psychotherapy at the William Alanson White Institute, which has been instrumental in my process of understanding how people become who they are.
I am an engaging, curious therapist who utilizes multiple therapeutic approaches while keeping my client's safety and trust at the center of my focus. Clients tell me I'm relatable and warm, with a good sense of humor. I am passionate about creating something truly alive, and life-changing between us. I welcome all parts of the client into our attachment, especially the messy and difficult parts. I am dedicated to ensuring that our therapy works, that we have clear goals and objectives, and that clients feel themselves moving towards the life they want.

I have extensive experience with the
adolescent
, emerging adult, and young adult populations, having worked for years in university and high school settings.
Transparency, encouragement and support make up the foundation of my approach. By replacing judgment with curiosity, I work to create a space where people can explore topics that may otherwise produce shame or guilt. This process fosters courage, self-awareness, self-acceptance, strength, new ways of thinking, and ultimately, relief and improvement. Guided by attachment theory, interpersonal psychology, and existential psychology, I use a psychodynamic approach to help people develop the clarity, confidence, and energy they need to take positive action and live their fullest lives.

Finding a psychologist who is a good fit, especially at the time of emotional crisis can be challenging. To find someone who is empathic, but also direct and firm, who is not afraid to call you out when you most need it, someone who understands the real life challenges of being a parent,
teen
, or young adult and who approaches challenges with a sense of humor and compassion, someone who has the right training, expertise, and schedule, can be daunting, to say the least. I am a CBT/DBT trained and practicing psychologist who is compassionate and direct.

Hi! I believe everyone has the capacity to change and grow, to heal from past trauma and to reclaim their relationship with themselves. My approach is relational and client-centered, with a focus on mind-body integration. I also draw from humanistic and psychodynamic modalities to cater the treatment plan to every individual I work with. I provide a safe, non judge-mental space for adults, children and adolescents to authentically work through wherever they may be in the moment. I welcome all genders, sexualities, and ethnicities to begin their healing journey.

I offer adult and
adolescent
individual therapy, with a focus on relationships.
Whatever brings you to therapy, talking to a well-trained, warm and sensitive therapist is likely to bring relief. I believe that a collaborative, genuinely caring therapeutic relationship is the key to successful therapy. Within the context of an empathic relationship, a person is safe to get to know her or his own feelings and habits, and where they come from. They are then unbound to repeat the same unhelpful patterns.

My patients are children/adolescents who are struggling emotionally. My goal is to help each child/
adolescent
reduce their distressing symptoms and live an enhanced quality of life. Although the child/
adolescent
is the patient, I work collaboratively with the parents/family and well as the child's school/psychiatrist as needed. My work is short term, evidenced based, and FUN!

I work with a wide variety of
adolescent
and adult clients of both genders. The problems they bring in are related to problematic love relationships and difficulties with work. I encourage them to say whatever is on their mind, and from there we try to understand the subtext of what is causing their problems. I particularly pay attention to how their current relationship and work problems are related to past difficulties they have had growing up in their family. Aspects of these past problematic family relationships are often carried over into the present without the client being aware of it.

I work primarily with women and adolescents coping with anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship issues. My approach is integrative, in that I use various tools and therapeutic techniques to help you discover and build upon your unique strengths. I provide a safe and caring environment in which you feel truly accepted and supported.

I am a first-generation Filipino-American who is attuned to the issues that immigrants and people of color/multicultural individuals experience. I also specialize in patients with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, grief, and parenting issues. I’m very comfortable working with a wide range of ages (
adolescent
, college age, young and later adulthood), LGBTQ+ issues, and various forms of relationships. My therapeutic approach is wellness centered. When thought and behavior patterns that once helped you cope and survive aren’t useful anymore, a therapeutic intervention can be helpful.

I have trained extensively in child and
adolescent
therapy, narrative and couples therapy, and sex therapy.
Whether working with couples, adolescents, families, or adult individuals, I see the therapy room as a place for clients to discuss the parts of themselves and their lives that they can’t talk about anywhere else. My approach is open, playful, and collaborative. I use a combination of narrative therapy, mindfulness, and psychodynamic techniques to help clients identify the stories they tell about themselves that are unhelpful; by examining and eliminating these, clients are better able to grow and change.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
