I have particular interest in working with LGBTQ+ people; first- and second-generation immigrants; and survivors of childhood trauma .
Do you have trouble figuring out what you truly want in relationships, or how to get it? Do you want to understand why you do what you do? Do you fear that you may not always make good decisions? Do you notice yourself being triggered by ordinary events? Maybe you are often overwhelmed by strong emotions—or maybe you have a difficult time feeling anything at all. Maybe it seems like there is something essential missing from your life: intimacy, confidence, vitality, motivation, self-compassion, growth, peace. Maybe you have lost touch with who you really are, or maybe you want to know yourself more deeply. Therapy can help.

Although I have a certificate in psychoanalysis from NIP, my work is informed by the needs of the individual and I use various modalities in treatment. I have extensive experience in working with trauma , both recent and past, and have found that my EMDR training is very useful. Cognitive/Behavioral techniques are particularly helpful in working with clients who are experiencing anxiety or depression. In some instances medication might be helpful and we would discuss a referral to a psychiatrist. I am not doctrinaire, and work with a client to develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Treatment for trauma , PTSD , anxiety, depression, OCD, fears/phobias, personality disorders, addictions, eating disorders, and more.
People experience different challenges in their lives that are sometimes difficult to work through alone. But together we can make sense of it, and achieve a healthier, happier life. By providing a safe and empathic space, we can explore those challenges. My approach to each and every session is to be with you, through truly listening, providing a judgment-free environment, respectful challenge, and mutual participation throughout the therapeutic process. As a team, you and I will process the emotional, cognitive, physical, familial, and spiritual factors impacting your life, and preventing you from achieving your goals.

I address specific concerns such as anxiety, depression, loss and trauma , as well as more general struggles to generate meaning and vitality in work, relationships, and life experience.
I work with individuals and couples who are struggling with some aspect of daily living - relationships, family, job; or who face a crisis such as illness or loss. I work to help clients understand the emotions, beliefs, and behaviors that may contribute to their difficulties. Strategies that have been adaptive or protective at an earlier time may no longer be needed and may interfere with life satisfaction. I have a flexible approach designed to strengthen coping skills and to foster resilience. My work involves both careful listening and active collaboration, with a focus on each person's unique history.

Because trauma and other difficult life events are felt not only in the mind but the body, I utilize a variety of techniques to help people heal from symptoms that may wreak havoc on their bodies such as intense anxiety, feeling shut down or numb, or experiencing intense anger.
As a licensed psychologist I have two initial goals: 1) To provide a safe, supportive environment. 2) To build a good, trusting relationship with my clients. Building a safe, trusting relationship allows me to collaborate with clients to help them feel better and make positive changes. I specialize in treating people who have a history of sexual and/or physical abuse, neglect, and sexual assault. In addition, I help people struggling with depression, low self esteem, anxiety, anger, relationship and family problems.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
