trauma
work (
PTSD
), with a look at childhood adverse experiences and its impact on current life stressors.
Have you felt any of the following: not enough, alone in crowds, empty inside, afraid of the world, sad most days, nervous, loss of interest or pleasure, loss of sleep, change in appetite? If you have felt any, some, or all; YOU are not alone. My passion is to partner with you in order to move through feelings and thoughts in a safe space. To help you quiet the inner judge/critic and rise above to a place of inner safety, joy, and love. To support your transformation of the person you were truly meant to be, and for you to believe "I am more than enough".

I provide psychodynamic,
trauma
-informed, and relational psychotherapy.
Therapy is not about fixing you as if you're some broken thing. To me, it's about recovering from suffering, and connecting deeply and authentically to yourself, allowing for your thoughts, feelings, desires and dreams. It can be difficult to begin a new therapy relationship and be vulnerable, especially when relationships have been harmful in the past. I think taking the risk anyway reflects an inherent pull toward repairing the old wounds that restrict our capacity to live freely and joyfully. I love working with LGBTQIA folks, relationships,
trauma
and abuse, and difficulties with shame, self-love and acceptance.

Whether your emotional pain comes from a disconnected or unfulfilling relationship, depression, anxiety,
trauma
, childhood abuse, I can be the rock on which you build the life you deserve.
We all want to be seen and heard--to express ourselves fully and authentically without being judged, shamed, criticized or rejected. I can help you learn to give yourself permission to express yourself fully in all aspects of your Self, to recognize the good and the healthy. I work with you to uncover that which has been shunned or pushed to the dark and forgotten--those destructive behaviors and unfulfilling relationships that limit your emotional growth. I help you identify those stressors and limiting beliefs that hold you back from living the life you want and deserve.

trauma
, grief, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, family conflict, as well as immigration and war/refugee experiences.

I provide traditional talk therapy and art therapy. Oftentimes it can be difficult to discern what exactly we are feeling, but I find that recognizing the way emotions present themselves in our bodies can help anchor our understanding and process confusing experiences. Sometimes feelings can be so overwhelming that the idea of putting them into words feels impossible, but through therapy we can do it together. I work through a
trauma
-informed lens and focus on collaboratively fostering a sense of safety, empowerment, human connection, and a sense of agency.

Healing can happen with the courage to understand one’s own life story. I believe therapy is a collaborative journey toward prioritizing emotional well-being, promoting healthier behaviors and routines, and fostering self-compassion. This journey often includes examining the dynamic challenges that impact our relationships. As each person presents with a unique set of strengths and challenges, I strive to personalize treatment to meet your personal goals, build upon your strengths, and help you feel in control of your life. Most importantly, I prioritize doing this work in a warm, supportive environment.

In my couples work, I draw on my knowledge of attachment and
trauma
, utilizing Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), for which I have been trained.
I practice in both NYC and Hastings. I draw on my clinical, activist and legal backgrounds. I work with individuals and couples. Individually, I work with adolescents, younger and older adults. In my work, I honor the struggles inherent in growing up, raising children and living a life of meaning - often as one copes with real financial, social or climate related stress. With warmth and curiosity, I view our interior lives from an attachment and relational perspective. I also draw on sensory and body-based modalities. When relevant, I create room to explore how our political culture impacts our felt sense of well-being.

For many people, therapy offers an inviting space to share thoughts and feelings one might not feel safe to share in other relationships. Others may view therapy as a sign of failure in not being able to solve life problems on one's own. I have worked with individuals at both ends of this spectrum. I often treat individuals who find it hard to know what they want in life and easily lose themselves with others, those who struggle to find love, and who suffer from feelings of worthlessness and emptiness. I am particularly adept in working with
trauma
, loss, relationship conflicts, destructive habits and family issues.

I support clients in working through presenting issues including anxiety, depression, occupational stress/work-related
trauma
, relationship issues, difficulty adjusting to major life changes, complex
trauma
, sexual assault, bereavement, and challenges resulting from varying levels of instability and/or lack of social supports.
I utilize a person-centered approach, tailoring each session to meet the needs of each client. I am attentive and adaptable, which allows me to engage deeply and authentically with my clients. I am highly skilled at helping clients identify their strengths and working collaboratively with them to bolster their innate abilities and help them use their strengths to achieve their goals. I believe in the importance of building trust within the therapeutic relationship, and I cultivate trust through active listening, transparency, and emotional-focused interventions to address what comes up between the client and therapist in session.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
