I employ a
psychodynamic
and cognitive/ behavioral approach to therapy with short and long term treatment options in my office.
"Transformation is a process, and as life happens there are tons of up and downs. It's a journey of discovery - there are moments on mountaintops and moments in deep valleys of despair"- Rick Warren. We all struggle with past or present situations that can get in the way of us living our lives wholeheartedly and that have an impact on the connection with oneself and others. Whenever you are going through a difficult time and you are confused about what is your next step, connecting with a trained therapist can be very helpful.

David views the therapeutic process as a collaborative effort and recognizes each person as an individual with their own needs and desires. An essential aspect of treatment provides the individual the space and safety to explore and express themselves in a confidential environment. This promotes a greater sense of self-awareness and self-acceptance. David's approach draws on a relational
psychodynamic
orientation, informed by infant and attachment research, as well as contemporary neuroscience. However, the individual's experience is always privileged in guiding the process, with a focus on finding the best way to help each person move forward in their life.

I incorporate
psychodynamic
theories and CBT and feel my success with clients is strengthened by utilizing different skill sets and theoretical frameworks, as applicable.
I fundamentally believe everyone, given the right tools, has the ability to thrive and fully experience life. Using DBT, I will immediately provide you with transformative skills to navigate stressful life circumstances, adapt to and stabilize dysregulated emotions, and that will encourage you to create the changes you envision. DBT is a short-term therapy, with long-term benefits. My focus is working with adolescents and adults, both individually and in groups, with mood disorders, anxiety/panic disorders, depression, suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and in need of crisis intervention.

I use a form of therapy called Supportive-Expressive Therapy which is a
psychodynamic
treatment that has been shown to be effective and efficient by primarily helping people get in touch with their feelings and the problematic ways they engage in personal and professional relationships. The initial session helps the client and I get an understanding of the problem that brought them to seek therapy and what life might be like without the problem. This gives people a chance to see if we might be able to work well together.

I am an interactive psychotherapist with advanced experience in Couples Therapy, Cognitive Therapy and Modern
Psychodynamic
Therapy. I help individuals and couples suffering from symptoms of depression, anxiety or problems in their relationships. Often clients come to me feeling stuck or confused about relationships and careers that keep them from engaging more fully in life. I help them to understand the problems, remove the obstacles, and live a life more in tune with their true nature. Having grown up in a family of therapists and worked through many of my own similar issues, I know personally and professionally the vast rewards of good therapy.

As a licensed clinical psychologist and certified psychoanalyst, I facilitate my clients' efforts toward self-reflection, help them gain a clearer understanding of their life experiences, and bring awareness to their patterns of relating. Although I am also trained in CBT, my orientation is primarily
psychodynamic
; it promotes self-exploration and insight, along with productive behavior change. I take an active and engaged role with my clients by asking questions, offering alternative perspectives, and suggesting new ways of thinking about issues that may be getting in the way of living a more satisfying life.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
