Milestones like graduating college, having a child, or going through a break up can trigger stress, anxiety, and existentialist thinking. I help people stay centered and connected to themselves as they move into new life stages. During these times, our relationships and identities often come into focus, especially when it comes to forming new friendships, changing
family
structures, or starting a new romantic relationship. In our work together, we’ll explore all the intersecting parts of your identity and focus on ways to build healthy, nourishing connections with the people around you.

The issues and topics we might explore together include race and racism, sexual orientation, sexuality, gender identity, depression, anxiety, stress, compulsive behaviors, substance abuse, grief, suicide, reaching career goals, relationship problems,
family
problems, phase of life issues, and self-actualization barriers.
Whether your thoughts are adaptive or maladaptive, they serve a function in your life. Through treatment, I will assist you in understanding those functions, what role they play, and how they are helpful or harmful. I believe problems manifest in how we interact with the people closest to us. Thus, our therapeutic relationship will help you to develop different ways of relating to others, allowing the healing process to begin. I'm well-versed in working with individuals of diverse races, sexual orientations, gender identities, nationalities, and traditionally marginalized communities.

Does this sound familiar? You're a high achieving, emotionally intelligent individual and to the outside world, you seem "fine." Internally, you are your own worst critic and struggle to feel fine. Caring about your
family
and friends, career, and personal expectations on a deep level is leading to feelings of anxiety, sadness, and burn out. Since you were a child you've been hyper-responsible and "mature for your age." After years of emotional labor and carrying a heavy mental load you fantasize about what it would be like to drop the ball and let others care about you for once. I get it and I can help!

Couples in crisis,or quietly losing their way, have come to me for help in strengthening their relationships in a neutral, supportive atmosphere. I also have extensive experience with individuals (adult and children) and families. In crisis, short term or long term therapy, I am quite familiar with issues of depression, anxiety, work, or
family
stress. Many clients contact me regarding concerns about isolation, sexual identity, mood swings, and interpersonal relationships . Men, who often seek out therapy less readily than women, are well represented in my practice. People in the arts also occupy a large part of my work.

The feeling of not truly belonging, whether it be in the context of one’s cultural environment, birth
family
, or sex can often lead to a painful sense of inadequacy, stagnation, and paralyzing low self-esteem. Left unaddressed, these feelings give way to fear and resentment and hinder us from finding our true voice, pursuing our life calling, forming and keeping meaningful relationships, and experiencing joy. You may be tired of feeling stuck, yet also anxious and overwhelmed by the prospect of change. Continuing to hide and bottle up your gifts and desires can only lead to long-term regret over a life unlived. There is another way.

It is sometimes difficult to know the direction one must take in life because of the influence of
family
, friends, and even strangers. Advice may be plentiful, but not helpful. I help by offering supportive and collaborative conversations so that you may find your own voice, use the skills and creativity that you have to survive life's challenges, transitions and relationships. I have made a commitment to work with individuals, and their families (when desired and available) to improve relationships, heal pains, and stregthen bonds.

It takes courage to tell your story, be vulnerable, and practice introspection. But as the old saying goes, “a problem shared is a problem halved.” Whether you’re experiencing challenges in your relationships,
family
, career, health, or questioning your life path, we’ll work together to find a solution. I’m a Counselor and Life Coach who supports people during life transitions—including marriage, divorce, career changes, motherhood, and grief and loss. Whatever you’re going through, I’ll be a compassionate listener who reframes the situation and so you can see it in a different, more positive, light.

To quote Anais Nin, " We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are". When you are in the middle of a problem it is hard to find solutions because there is a lack of prespective. Friends and
family
may have their own viewpoint that make it hard to be objective. Therapy provides a non-judgemental place to find new solutions when old behaviors don't work anymore. I have over 12 years experience successfully helping patients find alternative ways of veiwing things and making decisions about what they want in their lives.

I am deeply informed by my training at Ackerman Institute for the
Family
and approach the therapeutic process with great reverence, curiosity, and a desire to truly understand each person's individual experience.
I work with individuals, couples and families navigating a myriad of struggles. Some are questioning how to best be in connection with those they care about and looking for ways out of repeated negative cycles. Others are simply hoping to be supported and witnessed as they navigate life's many pains and joys. My greatest professional hope is that I can provide both.

family
dynamics, dating, imposter syndrome, self esteem/body image, and more.
Therapy sessions with me look a lot like a conversation. I believe that you ultimately know yourself, and I am here to be a guiding source and facilitator within the room. Depending on your needs, I can provide resources to coping mechanisms, practices and tools to take outside of our sessions. I can also be someone who listens without judgment. Therapy can be nerve racking, so I am open to listening and changing things up depending on how you grow and what you need. I love to learn and am always trying to create a positive therapy experience for you.

Whether they are healing a relationship, struggling with a life threatening illness, low self esteem, coping with a
family
member, struggling with childhood trauma, or simply getting to know themselves more fully, I introduce them to a world of options available to help them on their journey.
I am available for in person and remote therapy. The decision to enter Psychotherapy is a courageous one. When you have tried everything you can think of to feel better emotionally, but nothing quite works, it can be disheartening. Fortunately, that's where the help of a Psychotherapist can come in. With determination and commitment to the therapy process, it is never too late for anyone to change and live a happier more fulfilled life. For the past 33 years I have been in Private Practice working with clients (adults 18 and older) to do just that, change their lives. What makes me a unique psychotherapist is discussed below.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
