You feel anxious and depressed. You may be coping with a recent
trauma
or something from your past. You have friends but there are things you just don't want to burden them with. You're not really comfortable with yourself. Your thoughts tend to spiral. You might even have had panic attacks. Sometimes you feel overwhelmed by life. It seems like you're behind the curve and maybe you'll never catch up with your peers. Yet, there is hope. You can have real change by working on your problems in therapy.

If you are South Asian American, listen up: Being your own person does not make you less of a Brown person; it makes you a more genuine one. If you have been ever labeled the "Black sheep" of your community or family, been told that you are too "Whitewashed", "Too South Asian", or "Not Brown enough", you've come to the right place. Maybe you've struggled to belong in your community, but you belong right here! That's why I go by "The Bad Indian Therapist", because as someone who was raised Indian and Catholic, I've also been called these things too. We won't fit anyone's definition of "South Asian", so let's be "bad" together!

I am a trained Mental Health Counselor with specialization in treating anxiety-related disorders,
trauma
, substance abuse and specific issues related to men and adolescents.
Sometimes life can be very stressful due to a variety of barriers. Things like anxiety, depression or grief can interrupt our lives and lead to despair. Oftentimes as humans, we have this feeling that we are alone in this despair and that nobody can help us. Negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves can lead to poor self-esteem and isolation from those we love, as well as difficulties in our relationships and priorities from school to career. I believe we as humans all have the capacity to achieve our goals and transform into our best version of ourselves, and therapy can be the first step to achieving these goals!

Couples that have early childhood
trauma
sometimes 'reenact' their lived experiences and unprocessed feelings in the dynamic.
Do you feel like the same scene is playing out in your life over and over again, but an inability to change the script? Do you feel powerless in managing confusing and intense feelings and difficulty in understanding why you feel this way? I am a psychotherapist specializing in
trauma
-focused treatments for children, adults, and couples. I believe that most people who walk into the therapist's office have difficulties that are rooted in
trauma
. Most traumatic experiences happen in the context of a relationship and can also be healed in the context of a safe therapeutic relationship.

When confronted with a challenge it’s not enough to look inwards in the here and now but also examine how our past and societal systems affect the way we function in the world. Whether it’s walking through
trauma
, relationships, anxiety, depression, or discerning where you are in the wide spectrum of gender and sexuality, it takes a holistic and integrative approach to move forward into the path to wellness

I have been in practice 25 years. These days, the modalities that are my center are AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) and EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples), both are attachment & bonding based, and rely on feeling experientially & expressing primary emotion. I use EMDR (Flash technique too) and hypnosis as adjunctive therapies when needed, for example when treating
trauma
. I offer Life Coaching with a focus on personal fulfillment and relationships. I work for healing, and believe our wildest dreams can come true--even some we haven't dare dream yet.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
