I provide an integrative individual counseling service. I am interested in supporting clients to make healthy changes and growths in their lives through deepening their awareness of themselves and the world around them. Through this unique therapy relationship we will address current and past concerns from a Gestalt model. We will work together through problems in the here and now, including mindfulness, somatic awareness, meditations, laughter, parts work, and stress reduction practices. I also believe in empowerment in therapy and I believe that the greatest source of healing already exists in each of us as human beings.

Often this looks like traditional talk therapy mixed in with guided breathing, somatic movement, or even tarot and oracle cards.
Are you feeling stuck? Are you putting in effort to feel better with no forward momentum or a lack of direction? Are you a burned out perfectionist? Perhaps you’ve been struggling to break habitual patterns or make decisions that feel good, even if you know it would benefit you. I can support you in letting go of conditioned narratives and behaviors that are keeping you stuck. I am here to witness you and support you in the process of engaging in compassionate and honest self-reflection that will guide you towards connection to yourself, your community, and your purpose.

I use Emotionally Focused Therapy couples as well as Mentalization based, psychodynamic, and mindful, somatic based interventions with individuals to help clients regulate and clarify: (don't be worried about the jargon): we explore emotion and connection; therapy is experiential and dynamic.
I work with couples and individuals in couples counseling and psychotherapy. My approach is collaborative, interactive, engaged, to be "in it with you." I believe that core and primary emotions, when explored and shared in a safe environment with a secure other, can achieve the transformation we desire--toward relief, confidence, an expanded sense of self, authenticity, happiness, peace, joy, meaning and depth, satisfaction, openness and nurturing, loving relationships.

With training in somatic embodiment and regulation strategies, I incorporate the wisdom of the body in helping clients build awareness.
I strive to provide a therapeutic environment where clients feel not only safe and non-judged but also genuinely seen and heard. I believe that securing a trusting and sincere bond with my clients is of utmost importance before any real therapy can begin. I work collaboratively with clients to help them understand themselves more deeply and evoke meaning in their challenges so that they can live life more fully and authentically. Empowerment comes through connecting to your truth. I provide the support needed for clients to begin taking steps outside of their comfort zones and toward facilitating the changes that they wish to see.

I ground myself in psychodynamic, relational, & feminist orientations, while using mindfulness, somatic , cognitive, & narrative techniques for emotional healing.
The belief that we are all inherently deserving of connection, compassion, and curiosity is the thread that pulls itself through all of my work. I offer psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and multi-partner relationships. I am able to support people through experiences of anxiety, depression, trauma, gender, sexuality and sex, interpersonal issues, body image, life transitions, and shame. Much of my work focuses on supporting people who are LGBTQ, and I specialize in working with transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary (TGNCNB) people, polyamorous/non-monogamous people, and folks in kink communities.

I utilize an integrative approach to help others address mental health needs with Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Somatic Experiencing but do not let these names fool you.
I offers online counseling services to adults and college students in the states of New Jersey and New York. I specialize in helping clients who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and those experiencing confusion about their direction in life. I know that many adults are simply seeking a safe space to process their thoughts and emotions. I believe that the work requires both of us working hard to help you achieve your goals. If you are willing to do the work then we are going to be a great fit.

Our trauma often plays out in our life through struggles with substance abuse or self-harm as a way to cope with intolerable feelings; difficulty in intimate relationships; persistent self doubt; or overwhelming somatic feelings.
Do you feel like the same scene is playing out in your life over and over again, but an inability to change the script? Do you feel powerless in managing confusing and intense feelings and difficulty in understanding why you feel this way? I am a psychotherapist specializing in trauma-focused treatments for children, adults, and couples. I believe that most people who walk into the therapist's office have difficulties that are rooted in trauma. Most traumatic experiences happen in the context of a relationship and can also be healed in the context of a safe therapeutic relationship.

For over a decade as a psychotherapist in several settings, I have witnessed insurmountable suffering when mental illness remains untreated. As an addict, you may feel powerless; that your life is unmanageable and consequences are escalating. Allow me to help you recover and explore what your life has to offer when you let go of shame, guilt and self-judgement. Transformation occurs in recovery as you move from isolation and despair, to a life of freedom and joy with endless possibilities. As a somatic practitioner, I use body felt-senses as well as a psychodynamic approach to help resolve traumas and increase your resiliency.

I am a Gestalt therapist with training in somatic psychotherapy, mindfulness and meditation.
I help adoptees, people living with trauma and people suffering with anxiety and panic move towards the life and relationships they want. I work with issues of identity, connection, belonging, and how trauma is held in the body, the way the body keeps the score. My goal is to help you find both symptom relief and deeper change. I also work with my associate Asha Kadir who works with all kinds of mental health issues, and particularly loves working with young adults, international students, immigrants and refugees. Intersectionality is important in our practice.

I use an integrated, trauma-informed approach and draw from Somatic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and TF-CBT.
Are you struggling with anxiety? Do you notice yourself feeling disconnected from your body? I am a compassionate and warm therapist with experience supporting folks struggling with anxiety, trauma, gender, sexuality, depression, stress management, relationship crises and more. With the constant uncertainty that so many people face in today's world, it can be difficult to feel safe in your body and continue to grow in your self and relationships. I help clients build more tolerance to manage these experiences, thoughts and feelings, and to challenge the avoidance that may be exacerbating symptoms of depression, trauma and anxiety.

Most clients come to me for somatic psychotherapy after years of "talk" therapy when they realize that they are still reviewing the same emotional dilemmas. These clients are often intelligent, creative and successful professionals who secretly struggle with low self-esteem, relationship problems, anxiety/depression and psychosomatic problems. My work involves a present-moment approach to help you to redefine how you live in your world and express yourself. With me you will learn to balance your emotional nervous system and renegotiate old patterns that no longer serve you.

I work well with clients who are ready to deal actively with their issues and see real progress. Whether with individuals, couples, families or as a leader of group therapy, I combine psychoeducation and an eclectic mix of techniques from traditional talk therapy, psychodrama, EFT, Somatic Experiencing and mind-body techniques to provide the right help for each client. I have been conducting all my sessions remotely by videochat or phone, but hope to start seeing some clients in person soon, most likely on Mondays in Manhattan.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
