Parents who work with me are having difficulty parenting a highly spirited, anxious, depressed, or identity-developing child.
Therapy is a journey of self-exploration and discovery. Finding the parts of oneself to accentuate, embrace, and accept is part of this journey. Often, we focus on the things holding us back, depression, anxiety, worry, feelings of inadequacy or anger, regret and loss. Discovering what's below these symptoms can lead to a peaceful clarity and compassion. Being able to appreciate our experiences, grow from them, and accept their place within us provides a fertile environment from which we can grow.

Marriage & Family Therapist, LMFT
After receiving my graduate degree from Boston University, I pursued additional training in trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy, parent /teen mediation, addiction training, and motivational interviewing.
Have you wondered if your child or teen would benefit from therapy? I offer a complimentary consultation to discuss any questions you may have. As a senior therapist at Zackson Psychology Group, I enjoy working with children and adolescents that may be struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral or family issues. You can talk to me about anything; nothing will surprise me. I am accessible to parents and easy to talk to. I focus on your child, recognize their strengths, and develop tools to become their own therapist by learning how to deal with challenges. Children often feel better early on in treatment.

Through evidence based treatments, I address concerns such as phase of life difficulties, professional life slumps and challenges, parent -child relational issues, relationship difficulties, poor emotion regulation, anxiety, depression, and self-injury.
I'm a clinical psychologist who empowers women to feel fierce and confident in their chosen professional life while also building and maintaining meaningful personal relationships. I also help adolescents and parents navigate life transitions. For many of my clients, a lack of skills, low self-esteem, minimal self-empathy, and/or past hurts tend to get in the way of hitting desired goals and having fulfilling relationships. For adolescents finding autonomy while also dealing with ridiculously big emotions can wear on teens and parents. Ultimately, this results in feelings of depression, anxiety, emotion dysregulation, and possibly even self-harm.

With children and families, I utilize attachment-based interventions, play therapy and parent -child psychotherapy.
Understanding the dynamics behind the repeating processes in your life, whether they are symptoms or undesirable patterns, is the first step for meaningful and durable change. I work with both adults and children who have different forms of anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, or stressful life transitions. I also work with children who present with developmental or behavioral issues. Here is a video that I prepared about children's mental health during the pandemic: https://youtu.be/e1PVkqh9Ihg

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
