In therapy I aim to help you gain a greater understanding of yourself in a nonjudgmental and trauma informed space.
Sometimes it is difficult to adjust to or understand what is happening in your life and how you feel. It is often moments or seasons of change that make us feel alone, overwhelmed, hopeless, or numb to trauma and chronic stress, but these can be transformed into positive change. My main goal is to help you make sense of or minimize these feelings and identify and remove barriers to living a fulfilling life.

My areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, trauma , identity and relational struggles, psychosomatic, bereavement, and aging difficulties.
As a psychologist, I help people address their struggles and reach their potential. I pay careful attention to the establishment of a safe, trusting environment where people feel heard, seen, and supported. I have come to recognize the issues that come along with our attempts to cope with challenges that life presents. We often use strategies that might have been useful in the past and are less helpful now. These patterns--many of which are not in our immediate awareness--are multilayered and as such, present as portals for us to access the enormous field of potential for lasting change which we aim to access collaborativelly.

I blend 25 years of years of experience and training with psychodynamic, somatic (mind/body integration), gestalt and the expressive arts, to work with individuals, couples and families and specialize in relationships, anxiety disorders, addiction, life/career transitions, PTSD and developmental trauma .My training in Somatic Experiencing enables me to address trauma at its bodily source -an inside out approach that cognitive approaches can’t access. My belief in our human drive for wholeness extends to my extensive work with individuals and families impacted by addiction, a fundamental disconnect of mind, body and spirit.

My approach is integrative, strengths focused, multicultural, and trauma informed.
My clients are as diverse as as the challenges and motivations that bring them into therapy. The common thread that unites them (other than having excellent taste in therapists) is a bold desire to change and a passion (perhaps that needs rekindling) to live an authentic and meaningful life. I’ve worked with artists struggling to connect or reconnect with their muse, folks facing homelessness, athletes striving for peak performance, and college students struggling to matriculate- people facing serious cross roads who need someone to walk with them through the process. Or maybe you just want to feel better! I am here for all of it!

I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, and those looking for support with their trauma symptoms, substance use, relationships, anxiety and depression.
The world can be a complicated, confusing, and really overwhelming place, and we all develop our own ways of coping. Sometimes we reach a point where we realize some of our strategies need to change. I strongly believe that removing the shame and stigma associated with certain coping mechanisms and behaviors is integral to adjusting them. I work with clients to identify, and have compassion for, why they enact certain responses, behaviors, and patterns, and develop new ones that meet their current needs and desires.

I work with clients wanting to address a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma , relationship difficulties, substance use, work stresses, and life transitions. I work with clients from all walks of life, and I welcome the opportunity to learn more about their unique background, experiences, and perspective. People are naturally healthy and vibrant. However, our access to that vibrancy can become blocked as we adjust to life's challenges. I work to help my clients gain clarity into how and why they have lost access to meaningful parts of themselves and move towards a life that feels more connected and alive.

Is therapy right for you? Creating change in your life can be difficult, but tremendously rewarding. As a licensed psychotherapist with a holistic perspective, I work with adults and couples to address problems with troubling issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma and grief. Concerns with sexuality, sexual identity, and relationships are areas where I am experienced. I have a particular interest in resolving inhibitions and insecurities that are barriers to creative expression and successful relationships. Artists, writers, performers, and others for whom creativity is an important aspect of their life, if not their career, are welcome.

Therapy is an ongoing process of curiosity that takes a willingness to be vulnerable, and vulnerability is a learned strength. Your expertise on your experiences combined with my clinical knowledge creates a relationship where you have the space to intentionally explore yourself. I work with clients facing trauma , substance abuse and misuse, relatioship stress, domestic and sexual violence as well as anxiety, depression, and life transitions. It can be so helpful to have a place where you can express yourself without fear, and in that space you can learn to live from a place of authenticity and trust when life has gotten in the way.

My education and training took place at a number of local institutions including Columbia University Medical Center, Lenox Hill Hospital, and New York University. The majority of my work has been with adults, young adults, and adolescents who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship problems, drug or alcohol use, or post-traumatic stress reactions. These clients have often begun working with me after having engaged in their own long-term struggles. If you are reading this page, then you may be constantly angry or guilty, sad or scared, ashamed or overwhelmed. You may be considering finally trying to reach out for help.

Working from a trauma sensitive approach while integrating Western psychology, indigenous wisdom, anti-racist, and liberation focused lenses, I invite my clients to move through their journey of healing and self-actualization in a way that is in resonance with their wisdom traditions, body, mind and spirit.
Think of how good it would feel to have a day that is set up for you where you spend your time doing things that nourish your interests and tap into your talents, a life where you genuinely feel so connected to others and the work that you’re doing that it doesn’t even feel like work but like flow instead. Where joy and fun are an accessible norm, and you feel grounded, centered and confident in yourself. This is a true possible reality for you, one that can be reached through actionable steps. If you’re wanting to move forward in life, trust that inner knowing. It's the first step in guiding you to the life you're meant to have.

I have pursued further training in trauma work as well.
Our identity and values change as we go through life experiences and stages, being a product of these experiences as well as a process to strive for a more satisfied and fulfilled future self. While change is a constant in life, they can bring us stress, anxiety, confusion as well as compassion to self and others and deeper understandings of our meanings in life. I'd like to work with you to understand your needs that are both universal and unique, identify both unhelpful and helpful ways to fulfill them cognitively, emotionally and behaviorally. We will both collaboratively to identify goals and assess progress along the way.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
