I hold a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy & have received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness techniques, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), & The Gottman Method.
I believe our unique identities and lived experiences inform our inner landscapes. Difficult emotions you may be feeling are often signals that highlight the parts of ourselves longing for connection, understanding, & attention. Together we will listen to these signals, build a safe haven for exploration, and create space for self-expression, openness, and growth. There’s a deep comfort that develops when we feel safe and supported; and this experience can be healing and transformative. Centering warmth and empathy, I embrace a collaborative, person-centered approach, while utilizing practical tools to best suit your needs.

Limited Licensed Psychologist, PhD
In terms of diagnosis, I am open to seeing all patients, however, have specialization in the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety, personality disorders, family issues, severe trauma, and eating disorders.
I am a clinical psychologist with an extensive research background. Therefore, my therapeutic approach includes evidence-based techniques such as psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT, and DBT. My hope is that mental health treatment becomes part of your routine, the same way we make plans to exercise or see a primary care specialist. Warmth and compassion I believe are keys to establishing a therapeutic sense of safety and trust. Then we can explore deeper issues such as shame, fear, sadness, and self-doubt. Together, we will make goals that lead to the change you want.

I specialize in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and use an integrative approach which includes Psychodynamic, DBT, CBT and Mindfulness.
I view therapy as a collaborative process in which insight, wisdom and healing arise though a relationship of trust and curiosity. You might feel depressed, anxious, confused, frustrated, stuck or that your life has lost direction. Something in you knows it doesn’t have to be this way and therapy can help. By welcoming and exploring all parts of you, transformation and healing is possible. I value the experience of each individual and tailor my approach to your unique needs in a holistic, non-pathologizing manner.

I utilize aspects of Narrative Theory, Attachment, and Internal Family Systems Theory to guide my practice.
Did getting to this page take you a while to finally do? Let's face it, therapy can be really intimidating, especially if we've had a bad experience or have never been before. I can promise you my style of therapy is the furthest thing from intimidating. I want to hear you out, be with you in what you're processing, and make it less painful with more gains. In my office, we'll laugh, get real, and walk through whatever it is you need. It's my belief that we're not meant to go through life with an "it is what it is" mindset. It truly doesn't have to be, if you're wanting change we're going to find a way to get there together.

An effective mental health counselor is a social anthropologist at heart with a profound knowledge of ethnicity, sociology, race, religious and/or spiritual denominations, family dynamics and how economics influence and determine emotional conflicts. Fluent in French, Spanish and English, well-travelled and well-versed in the arts and literature of other countries and with a subtancial background in psychology and psychoanalysis I approach emotional issues with flexibility and relevance to the individual patient. I delve into the client's self and biographical life to mobilize hidden forces, unused energies to assist him/her in the struggle to prevail.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
