My approach is shaped by my advanced training in psychodynamic/relational psychotherapy and trauma-centered treatment, and I incorporate CBT and mindfulness when appropriate.
Are your ways of managing stress, anxiety, or depression no longer working as they once did? Are you overwhelmed with a new issue or struggling with long-standing frustrating feelings and ready to make a change? My role is to be your partner in understanding yourself more deeply. We will put our heads together to uncover how beliefs about yourself and the world came to be, and how some may be preventing you from feeling satisfied in life. We often come to therapy when we are feeling stuck, and I want to work with you to understand what barriers are in the way to your feeling as alive and fulfilled as you hope to be.

My approach to psychotherapy is insight oriented from a relational psychodynamic perspective with behavioral tools as needed.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a private practice in Manhattan. I meet with adult and adolescent patients for treatment of depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. I am also qualified to work with individuals presenting with addictions and high risk behavior. It is my belief that psychotherapy is a collaborative effort between therapist and patient and that a good match promotes effective treatment.

I start with attachment theory and I incorporate other therapies such as psychodynamic, behavioral, narrative, existential, and client-centered therapies.
OUT of NETWORK with insurance. Everyone has a story and I want to hear yours. I help clients develop self-awareness and self-empowerment so that you can heal your relationship with yourself and be in charge of your own life. I work from a fundamentally nonjudgmental lens and I view clients holistically, taking in all of the parts and pieces that make you who you are. I will never see you as a diagnosis. Goodness of fit is critical and I will personalize therapy to meet your unique needs. You might come in with one concern in mind, only to find out it's all connected! I believe humor and unconventional thinking will take us far.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to treatment, so I like to use multiple approaches, including psychodynamic therapy, CBT, strengths identification, motivational interviewing, and active listening.
Hi, I'm Jessica. The choice to begin therapy and take that first step for help is a very personal one and it can be difficult to be open and vulnerable with a complete stranger, Thanks for being here. I identify as a brown, fat, disabled first-generation woman, and I understand how daunting it can be to put yourself out there when you're not sure if you'll be enough. I promise in this space, you are always enough and you can come as you are. I have specific interest in working with those who struggle with anxiety, first-generation and cultural concerns, trauma, body-image/eating disorders, and who are disabled and/or cronicaly ill.

Waitlist for new clients
These include: client-centered therapy, narrative therapy, internal family systems therapy, anti-racism, intersectionality, feminist & queer theories, and psychodynamic therapies.
Let’s say therapy works for you, what do you imagine will be different about your life? I always ask this question in our initial session, because therapy is about helping you get where you’re trying to go. My role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where curiosity is natural, compassion is the baseline, and exploration is key. To do this, I believe that a positive and strong relationship between therapist and client is essential. I typically work with clients who are navigating gender identity, life transitions, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and/or trauma—especially religious/spiritual trauma.

My approach is generally psychodynamic.
WHY THERAPY? Finding a therapist or counselor can be an anxiety-provoking pursuit. In my experience, people seek treatment for a wide variety of reasons, such as depression, anxiety/stress, relationship problems, parenting difficulties, low self-esteem, and so on. Seeking therapy is an act of maturity and strength! It says that you recognize that you are unhappy or dissatisfied with some aspect of your life and that you ultimately want to function and feel better.

I integrate a psychodynamic approach with mindfulness practices and explore your attachments to glean a deeper understanding of who you are and how your relationships impact your experience.
You are the expert in your life and journey. Even when we think we have the best skills, it can sometimes feel like we are losing grasp of key areas in our lives. As those strings begin to unravel, we can feel the impact of complicated interactions with family and loved ones. We might experience a disconnect between our goals and our current station in life. I work with individuals and couples to share their thoughts freely, explore challenges, and develop solutions and coping mechanisms that support overall wellness.

My approach is eclectic, but draws heavily from a psychodynamic framework.
You are looking to make changes in your life, but don’t know where to start. Or maybe it feels like there are too many changes in your life and it's making you anxious. You are in the midst of a life transition and are feeling anxious. There are so many valid reasons that people seek out therapy. It is one of the most personal experiences and therefore, I believe in a very individualized approach.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
