I have extensive experience working with adults and adolescents dealing with
anxiety
, moods, blocked creativity, conflict, relationship, substance use and stage of life issues.
Therapy is a commitment one makes to oneself. It is a unique and creative process dedicated to self reflection and self discovery. Together we can explore a wide range of issues, chronic patterns, and challenging life events. We will listen to symptoms as messengers - expressing something of the greater self that needs to be understood and attended to. The goal is to relieve emotional distress and suffering; to make space for your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and to gain greater understanding about your inner workings, your relationship to yourself and others, and how you want to live into your life.

I work with men and women who are seemingly successful and happy but deep down inside feel lost, alone, even if they are in a relationship, and struggle to be present in life or often feel like they don't belong. I treat
anxiety
and depression through examining unconscious cognitive distortions and repetitive coping mechanisms as well as deep-rooted inner conflicts, insecurity, guilt, shame, family of origin and childhood trauma that manifest in perpetuating self-doubt, career dissatisfactions, and relationship/intimacy difficulties. Clients with prior therapy experiences often report making progress in our initial work together.

I am a trained DBT therapist for individuals, couples, and families and have experience working with trauma, depression,
anxiety
, and more.
It is always a vulnerable choice we make when we decide to attend therapy. Therefore, it is only natural to look for a safe place to be ourselves. To speak, be heard/validated, and to feel secure. Most importantly, to feel listened to without the fear of judgement. I understand. I aim to provide such a place for you where we can also collaborate, help promote self-growth, and self-exploration within your relationship with yourself or with others. Those are difficult situations to navigate and to find yourselves in and the therapeutic process is a personal journey, so seeking the right kind of therapist is important.

. I help my clients break this exhausting cycle. My clients will learn practical skills to approach challenging situations with increased flexibility and ease, make decisions that they believe in and feel good about, and find a sustained sense of meaning in life.

I believe that building the therapeutic relationship marks the beginning of the healing process. Together we will explore your life and gain a greater understanding of your experience in the world. I use a warm, empathic, patient, and non-judgmental style. I’m a queer woman and I was born and raised by a South American immigrant mother and a white father, which influences my belief in an intersectional approach to psychotherapy. Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
