I provide evidence-based treatments to help clients overcome depression, anxiety , social anxiety , women’s issues and a host of dating and relationship issues.
Psychologists provide a unique perspective when assisting clients in doing the often difficult work of facing their own emotions and the various factors that led them to seek help. The goal is for clients to process their emotions, learn skills, and practice change-oriented strategies to help them overcome the difficult hurdles they currently face. This often results in clients who feel more balanced, resilient, and confident in handling unexpected situations as they arise.

Feelings of emotional pain, depression or anxiety , alert us that important needs are not being met. When needs are not met we feel vulnerable and require protection. As a psychoanalyst I work with the whole person to find less taxing forms of protection so that fears , social withdrawal or repetitive attempts at safety become less necessary. I encourage relaxed communication at a very comfortable pace to nurture a greater sense of safety so your drive for freedom naturally leads you to the life you want. I work to resolve depression, creative blocks, OCD, trauma, romantic difficulties, and problems at work.

For over a decade I have worked with the LGBTQ+ community, adolescents, young adults and adults regarding family & relationship issues, transitions, career stress/burnout, self image, anxiety , depression and trauma.
For some, therapy provides a space to address a current crisis, chronic feelings of distress or to expand awareness of oneself and sometimes a mix of all three. I believe therapy is most impactful when it is tailored to each person’s unique needs and concerns. This looks different for everyone and might even look different throughout your journey. Good therapy can help you to make the changes you have been struggling with, identify the patterns that might be holding you back and ultimately help you to create a more fulfilling life.

Going through a tough time? Need a comfortable space to figure it out? It is not easy to stare one's own thoughts, feelings, and fears in the face. Therapy can provide the support and comfort that is needed to accomplish this goal. It may get messy at times but the reward will be worth it. I am an experienced clinician that keeps it real and have been doing clinical therapy for many years which provided me with a wide variety of experiences. I have used multiple practice styles due to my belief that each situation and most importantly each individual warrants their own.

When someone considers counseling/therapy, generally they are seeking some form of growth/change because something is not working in their life. While this may manifest as depression, anxiety , addiction or unhappy/broken relationships, our 30+ years of clinical experience at Village Counseling has taught us that the problem is often relational in nature, meaning the core problem revolves around either relationships with others, or the relationship with one’s self.

Therapy can do more than heal your pain. It will do that, of course--alleviate your depression, your anxiety , the pain of trauma or loss, of "getting in your own way" in the search for a good relationship or career achievement. But there's more to therapy than just relief from suffering; it can also help you grow into a more open, loving, creative, courageous, and alive version of yourself. As I help you heal the troubles that first deliver you into my office, I will always spend equal attention on exploring and nurturing your undiscovered potential.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
