I tailor the treatment to the needs of the
family
and therefore the modality and approach in treating a child, adolescent or young adult will vary.
Do you have a child or adolescent who has difficulty concentrating at school or defiant at home? Or is your child or adolescent having difficulty adjusting to a divorce? Is your child being picked on at school? Do you have a college age student who is unhappy or not doing well academically? I can help. I am a psychologist with expertise in treating children/adolescents and young adults. I work with children/adolescents of divorce parents and specialize in treating ADHD, depression, anxiety, school and
family
problems. I have a subspecialty in evaluating and treating children/adolescents with a trauma history.

My areas of expertise are comprised of a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, couples and
family therapy
(including families with dysfunctional members), infidelity, loss, parenting issues, relationship conflicts, and work-related difficulties.
I may not be the right therapist for everyone. A successful therapeutic relationship begins with a rapport between the therapist and their patient. Often, patients will meet me and we have an instant empathic connection. We both have a gut feeling it will develop into a good working alliance. My goal is to help patients become more aware of their obstacles, to find ways to resolve their inner conflicts, and make better choices. Patients are often unaware of how deeply other people and experiences have impacted them.

family
conflict, parenting, academic underachievement, school pressure, coping skills, life transitions, stress, infertility, grief, loss, career and creative work conflicts.
As a psychotherapist, I provide a safe environment for reflection where discovering and exploring fixed patterns that hinder you from realizing goals can lead to awareness. family
and individual therapy enables me to help patients achieve success.
For over 25 years I have been privileged to become closely involved with patients and their challenges. I value my relationship with each patient and couple, and provide a safe, warm environment. My goal is to bring about positive change by alleviating problems and providing relief from symptoms. Extensive training and experience combined with warmth and individualized attention are the ingredients which enable me to help my patients successfully achieve their goals. Since every individual and situation is different, I match the treatment to the patient, and not the patient to the treatment.

There are many ways to have a
family
that works; our task is to discover yours.
Coping skills are important, and I will certainly help you with those. But you want to really live your life, not just get through it. Merely coping is not enough, you want to thrive! That's my working assumption. If you don't think that's possible, that's where our work begins, to figure out how you can regain hope, and the belief that vitality is your birthright. Clearing space for creativity is an important part of the process. Don't have a creative bone in your body, you say? I say you're wrong. Let's talk.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
