There are many reasons why we seek therapy; and they differ in terms of how problems and circumstances influence our lives. I work with adults, teens, and couples seeking relief from anxiety, depression , low self-esteem, relationship issues, poor self-assertion skills, identity issues, and life stressors (such as death of a loved one, divorce, job loss, career change). I also work with college students in NYC living away from family and support; young adults launching into adulthood in NYC; and helping couples find solutions to problems in an otherwise satisfying relationships. Out-of-network reimbursement options are available.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in New York City. I have been practicing for over 30 years. I work in an insight oriented and supportive therapeutic environment concentrating on ego functioning and interpersonal relationships. I deal with issues of anxiety, depression , self-esteem, mood regulation and the management of emotions and conflict. My therapeutic goal is to help each patient to develop more self-awareness and insight so that they can make better choices and achieve more personal satisfaction - while decreasing the anxiety and conflicts that limit their daily emotional experience and self-confidence.

I have extensive training in helping those who are experiencing anxiety, depression , and family concerns.
My passion is helping people adjust to significant transitions in their lives. Often when we experience changes in our lives, we lose our sense of balance and identity. These changes may be caused by the death of a loved one, shifts in family roles, adjustment to an illness, or new demands at school or work. In our work, you will gain a deeper understanding of how these transitions are impacting your mood, quality of life, and overall happiness. I work with clients to set and achieve realistic goals, while using one's values and strengths to help achieve these goals.

Family and relationship issues, life transitions, depression and anxiety, are areas of particular interest.
I view treatment as a collaborative effort between client and therapist. This working relationship is an essential ingredient in the healing process. Having an eclectic approach, I try to fit the treatment to the needs of the patient. I draw from interpersonal, psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral and family systems ideas in conceptual- izing and addressing the problems at hand. It is extremely rewarding for me to assist clients in recognizing and freeing up their potential.

My expertise lies in counseling my patients to master their anxieties, depression , relationship, and vocational struggles. In addition to being a licensed social worker, and psychotherapist on staff at my post-graduate institute for psychoanalytic psychotherapy, I have extensive experience in both the business and fashion worlds and can readily appreciate the difficulties engendered by high-pressure careers. Having worked in competitive environments, I am exquisitely attuned to the many self-esteem vulnerabilities that can inhibit people from achieving their goals.

I work with individuals and couples who experience difficulty in their lives related to anxiety, depression , past trauma, or unhealthy coping skills.
Uncovering deep feelings and internalized anxiety can better help one to understand the motivations for problematic behaviors or interruptions to ones well being. In the search for more balanced personal and professional lives and long term harmony and self esteem, we will work together to uncover those deeper feelings and impulses in a safe, non judgmental space.

Collaboration and trust characterize a strong therapeutic relationship. Therapy is very much a conversation about how you think and feel and what you hope to change. My starting questions are "why now," and "how would you like me to help"? I am trained in developmental and clinical psychology and work with adolescents, young adults, families and adults throughout the life span. Anxiety, depression , addiction, eating disorders and transitioning to adulthood are specialties.

I work with a wide range of age groups: children who are communicating through behavior; young adults who are defining themselves, increasing autonomy and strengthening their individual identities; couples trying to improve their communication styles or learning how to negotiate transitional periods in their relationships; older adults navigating life's changes with resulting changes in roles. Clients of all ages are dealing with relationship issues, poor confidence and self-esteem, loss, depression , anxiety and addictive problems, seeking to understand the sources of their discomfort rather than continue trying to avoid or outrun their problems.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
