We work from a holistic perspective and provide individualized therapy that addresses the many issues that co-occur with and underlie the eating disorder: depression, OCD, anxiety/panic attacks, self esteem, perfectionism,
family
problems, and more.
Having an eating disorder can make you feel trapped in a world where thoughts about food and your body become your whole life. You don’t have to stay trapped. You don’t have to keep canceling plans, making excuses, or hiding your behaviors. You can start to feel comfortable in your own skin, eat the way others do, and be more present in your life. I have over 10 years of experience providing specialized therapy to people with eating disorders and understand the complex nuances of what you are facing. I know how to move you towards recovery so that you don’t have to continue to suffer.

I have been working with children and their families for over 15 years in settings such as hospitals, schools, mental health clinics and client's homes. I have extensive experience treating children with anxiety and depression, behavioral and anger management issues, ADHD, and oppositional defiance disorder. I have supported families through various stages of the divorce process and loss of a
family
member. I believe that a child is successful in therapy when the whole
family
is supportive and involved and I therefore have strong communication with a child's parents. I follow a Cognitive Behavioral and strengths based approach.

My post-graduate training in
Family
Systems and Cognitive Behavior Therapy inform my work.
How you get through a difficult time does matter. Insight oriented work is an incredibly powerful and meaningful process whereby you explore who you are, what you want, and how to get there. My clients are typically smart, kind, and goal-oriented. I have found that they may be struggling with anxiety, depression, or rocky relationships but they strive for peace, inner strength, loving relationships and a sense of purpose.

As a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage &
Family
Therapists, I help families to recognize unhealthy patterns and assist them in creating solutions together.
I begin the collaboration with each person seeking my professional counsel by asking, "What is it you're not getting in your life that causes you pain?" Together, we explore the resources that will allow them to heal, change and grow. During the 30 years I have practiced psychotherapy, from a systemic or holistic perspective, I have assisted individuals, parents, couples, adolescents and caregivers to see and experience their lives differently.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
