I provide individual therapy to adolescents and adults, as well as guidance for parents who want to understand and support their struggling teen .
Having an eating disorder can make you feel trapped in a world where thoughts about food and your body become your whole life. You don’t have to stay trapped. You don’t have to keep canceling plans, making excuses, or hiding your behaviors. You can start to feel comfortable in your own skin, eat the way others do, and be more present in your life. I have over 10 years of experience providing specialized therapy to people with eating disorders and understand the complex nuances of what you are facing. I know how to move you towards recovery so that you don’t have to continue to suffer.

I am a licensed psychologist in private practice in New City, New York. I have been in private practice since 1996. I also worked as a School Psychologist retiring in 2016 after working in the school setting for 35 years. I received additional training through the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy attending a two year program in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and another two year program in Adult Psychotherapy. When working with children and adolescents, I provide space for them to comfortably express their thoughts and feelings regarding their experiences. I also work closely with parents while respecting the confidentiality and comfort level of their children. When working with adults, I provide a safe and trusting setting in which understanding leads to both acceptance and change, if necessary. Changes are co-created through the positive, caring interactions of therapist and patient.

I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience. I provide quality services to all age groups.I have an extensive background in child and adolescent services both doing therapy and supervising other therapists. I have worked extensively with ADHD,learning disabilities, adoptive issues ,trauma ,depression, anxiety and neurological conditions including some rare ones. I believe that effective psychotherapy is best provided in a safe atmosphere of mutual collaboration toward goals that include not only symptom reduction but developing a happier, more fufilled life. Since play is the natural mode of communication for children, I offer a play therapy designed to meet the needs of my child patients. Most children quickly feel comfortable in this setting. Here, they can overcome fears, sadness, anger and learn to better control impulses. I view parents as collaboraters and actively seek their input as they are the best source of knowlege about their child.

The teenage years can be a very confusing and difficult time. Between dealing with the struggles of social and academic pressures and having to choose a path after high school, this time in the life of a teenager can be almost unbearable. They often feel overwhelmed, unheard, and alone. For parents, this time can be just as challenging. Teens might be angry or irritable and lash out regularly. They might feel anxious or depressed and unable to regulate their emotions. This leaves parents feeling helpless, concerned and scared. Sharing a safe therapeutic environment with someone who listens and understands is empowering and healing.

I have been working with children and their families for over 15 years in settings such as hospitals, schools, mental health clinics and client's homes. I have extensive experience treating children with anxiety and depression, behavioral and anger management issues, ADHD, and oppositional defiance disorder. I have supported families through various stages of the divorce process and loss of a family member. I believe that a child is successful in therapy when the whole family is supportive and involved and I therefore have strong communication with a child's parents. I follow a Cognitive Behavioral and strengths based approach.

Therapy is a process of building a trusting relationship in which expression, exploration, awareness and healing occur. I provide a warm, nurturing environment in which this therapeutic relationship can develop and grow. Knowing that each client is unique, I tailor my approach to best meet each individual’s needs. As an art therapist and psychotherapist, I have worked with adults, adolescents, children and families in a variety of settings. My creative methods include both traditional “talk” therapy as well as the use of art materials to foster expression and facilitate the process.

Navigating life's obstacles can be a challenging and sometimes lonely experience. I offer clients a supportive partnership where together, we can explore the issues of concern, the factors that are currently creating obstacles to growth so that clients can take steps towards change that works for them.As clients explore their life situations, they will walk away with greater insight that will serve them beyond our time together. As we work together and work on developing greater self awareness coupled with new patterns of thinking and behavior, clients will increase the skills they bring to dealing with present and future challenge

I work with adults of all ages specializing in treating trauma, anxiety disorders, and depression. My work is grounded in evidence-based treatment with relational theories, harm reduction, integration, and spirituality when appropriate. It can be difficult to admit when we are struggling. In a world that can be harsh and unforgiving, we may learn to believe that showing vulnerability means we are weak. That if we share our fears and anxieties with others, we are burdening them, or giving them ammunition to use against us in the future. These are common beliefs held by clients when I first see them.

By choosing to participate in therapy, you are giving yourself or your child a precious opportunity to pause. Together we will create a safe space to develop insight, participate in self-discovery and engage in healing. You will be viewed from a holistic standpoint, and our work together may help you anchor yourself to the present moment. From there, we will explore how you got here, and where it is that you would like to go. There are often an abundance of discoveries throughout the healing process along with many opportunities to create the change you seek.

Teen Therapists
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence.
