Are you feeling unhappy about your life at this point. often depression is masked with the use of alcohol, drugs or some other kind of compulsive behavior. I have over 30 years treating families, couples, and individuals with these problems. There is no need to continue unhappiness when help is available. Asking for help is the first step, take it now.

Change is a natural part of life. When we stop fearing it, it becomes a powerful tool for healing. The unexpected circumstances life brings don't have to define you. With the right support, a more meaningful and purposeful life is within reach. Whether you're struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, addiction, or the relentless pressure of everyday life, you don't have to face it alone.

You may be working hard to keep everything together, but inside it can feel exhausting. Maybe your mind rarely feels quiet. You find yourself overthinking, second-guessing your decisions, replaying conversations, or worrying that you’re falling behind, disappointing others, or not doing enough. Even when things look “fine” on the outside, internally you may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to get back to feeling like yourself.

I believe that therapy is the process of self-actualization. It is the fulfillment of our overall need to achieve a healthy mind, body, and spirit. It is the place where one can move safely from a world of uncertainty and self-doubt to realizing the hopes and dreams of the individual in both intra and interpersonal relationships. I am firmly committed to the belief that each one of us deserves the life we have always imagined and it's a privilege to be a part of an individuals journey to that place.

Do you notice that you're feeling stressed, sad, or just not like yourself anymore? Maybe you are struggling with changes in your life - parenthood, the end of a relationship, a new job or grieving a loss. Or you may just want someone to talk to. If you have been pushing down your feelings and now feel like you need to address them, you've already taken the first step! The next part involves letting those thoughts and feelings come out, working through them, and learning new coping skills to help you handle the big feelings. I enjoy working with new parents, law enforcement families, and those affected by a loved ones addiction.

I am a Psychologist in private practice working with individuals and couples, adolescents and adults. I have worked in many different clinical settings since 1968 and, for 40 years of private practice, have worked with a range of difficulties involving anxiety, depression, addictions, abuse, obsessions, parenting, trauma and PTSD, personality disorders and psychosis. One specialty has been using psychological testing to get a more accurate and detailed diagnostic picture of the issues, as just having a quick diagnosis is not enough and can result in misunderstanding and poor treatment.

The only way to change is to define who you are and then change your habits to align with who your new self is. It's as simple as that, but the problem that arises the most with the clients who come into my office is; who is this new person I want to be. This can be difficult, because many times there are many underlying factors that prevent us, or that we perceive prevent us from taking the steps we need to move forward. It is my job is to help you realize what great potential you have inside you already. With that said let's work together to pick apart the old ideas you have of yourself, and create a new pathway forward.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” When stress, change, loss, or the demands of daily life feel overwhelming, it is natural to feel discouraged, uncertain, or alone. Yet within every person lives the ability to heal, grow, and rise with renewed strength. Through challenges comes growth, and even difficult seasons can open the door to insight, courage, and meaningful change. Hope can be restored, purpose rediscovered, and resilience can be strengthened with compassionate support. As a mental health counselor, I provide a safe, supportive space where clients feel seen, valued, empowered, and encouraged to thrive..

As a counseling and sport psychologist, my passion is to help people reach their potential and make long-lasting change. For athletes or high-achieving working professionals, it can feel difficult to find a therapist who understands how to support both your mental health and assist in improving your performance. Worries about the future, one's relationships, and performance anxiety can interfere with becoming the fullest version of oneself. Knowing that you're capable of living a better life and performing at a higher level, but feeling that it's hard to access, can be incredibly frustrating.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
