You’ve always been the steady one—reliable, achieving, caring for others—yet somewhere along the way, you lost connection with your own emotional needs. When you try to slow down, it stirs up anxiety, guilt, or a deep ache you can’t quite name. Still, a part of you knows it’s time to pause, to turn inward, and to find your way back to yourself. I offer a space to reconnect and heal. I also walk alongside families navigating the emotional and cultural layers of transracial adoption, helping them honor identity, process grief and loss, and nurture relationships built on understanding and trust.

People often carry early emotional wounds that inhibit joy and meaning in their life. They long to be heard and understood, to be valued by others. They want to let go of the negative experiences and that personal narrative, to feel a greater sense of purpose and connection in their life. Going it alone can be challenging… and lonely. Therapy can offer safety, compassion, connection and curiosity to support challenging aspects of their personal narrative that no longer serve them, to begin to let it go and create the life they want, becoming their best self. More joy is always possible through compassion curiosity and connection!

NY residents can be seen virtually or in-person in my Oneonta office.
On the outside, it looks like you’ve got it all figured out, but beneath the surface, it's getting harder and harder to keep things together. You have dreams of the life that could be, but worry, stress, and self-criticism hold you back. You do so much for your career and your relationships, but always wonder if it’s enough. You wonder if YOU are enough. You’ve probably said to yourself, “I don’t NEED therapy, but…”, or “I should be able to deal with this on my own.” Let me assure you that whatever you’re going through, not only is it okay to ask for help, but it just may be the best step you can take toward living your best life!

You've read the email fourteen times. Pulled Tarot until you got the safe answer. Explained your no in five paragraphs and still felt like the bad guy. You've done the therapy, the journaling, the rituals, and on Monday morning your chest still flutters the second you open your laptop. The missing piece isn't more insight. It's your body. I'm a somatic therapist and coach with 17+ years of clinical training — Gestalt, Hakomi, Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy, and a lifelong practice in astrology, tarot, and Andean mysticism. And I don't make you choose between the two.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
