I feel there is no right or wrong time in life to start therapy. Clients contact me because they have been feeling overwhelmed, down, or just not how they’re used to feeling. It may be hard to find enjoyment in life, with each day feeling like going-through-the-motions. My clients might have gone through a trauma, a loss, or other stress that left them feeling stuck in distress. They may be facing a new, big life change, and things just feel unmanageable. Emotions may feel like “too much,” and they just want to find relief.

As life moves forward with its many demands of time and energy, therapy is a place to slow down and reconnect with who you are and where you are right now. Whether those challenges are grappling with anxiety, navigating the depths of depression, confronting past traumas, or navigating the complexities of identity within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum - know that you are not alone.

Life can be extremely hard at times. We often face unexpected challenges and overwhelming feelings that lead us to feeling stuck. Healing takes courage, and we all have courage, even if we have to dig a little to find it (Tori Amos). Therapy is an opportunity to focus on our mental health and explore our experiences. No one is the same, we all have unique experiences and hold different perspectives. I aim to provide a safe space for individuals, children, and families to process their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we can learn healthier ways of communication, and coping with life’s stressors.

Life has a way of normalizing the procrastination of our individual needs and in truth I think it is too often that people feel alone despite being in a room full of people, or like an imposture in this complex world of non-stop hustle. Making the decision to be vulnerable with another person in therapy is an empowering act of self-love and breaking the norm of dismissing our needs. My approach is contingent with each client and their presenting obstacles, needs and goals.

There isn’t any relationship in a person’s life that can compare to the kind of relationship shared between a client and their therapist, and that is what makes this connection so invaluable. A lot of us are fortunate enough to have people in our lives that we can both confide in and seek advice from, but it is quite normal in this day and age to need more support than our friends and family can provide. Coincidentally, this extra support can come from a person that initially begins as a stranger.

Have you ever considered the defining experiences in your life that affect how you currently live your life and how you feel? Are there major challenges with relationships, substance use, loss, work or past trauma? Are your best efforts to avoid suffering keeping you "stuck" on the same path? Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
