Anxiety, self-doubt, relationship challenges, and major life transitions can leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and unsure of how to move forward.
One of my favorite concepts in therapy is that two things can be true at once. You can be grateful and struggling, confident and afraid, healing and still hurting. Often, growth begins when we stop judging our emotions and start making room for them.

Many of my clients appear high functioning on the outside while internally struggling with anxiety, overthinking, comparison to peers, relationship stress, and uncertainty about who they are or where they’re headed next.
Therapy with me is collaborative, supportive, and grounded in real conversations. I help clients better understand emotional patterns, navigate anxiety and life transitions, and make choices aligned with their values rather than pressure or expectations. Sessions may explore relationships, self-esteem, identity, and uncertainty about the future.

These include, but are not limited to, anxiety, OCD, depression, ADHD, family issues, health-related issues, and behavioral issues both at home and at school.
My goal is to create a welcoming environment for adolescents, teens, and adults to feel safe opening up and talking about their struggles; this in and of itself can be transformative. Together with my clients, we examine the sources of their pain and figure out ways to think about and approach them differently that will allow them to heal and thrive.

I have over 25 years of therapeutic experience working with individuals, couples, and families who are dealing with multiple issues including relationship issues, infidelity, anxiety, life transitions, grief, infertility, and parenting issues.
Often the hardest part of solving problems is finding the right person to help you. Since therapy can be an exciting, challenging, and at times a daunting process, it is important to know that you are working with a therapist who is experienced with the issues you are struggling with.

I most frequently work with adults, with common presenting problems including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties.
Patients come to my practice looking to better their lives. They often come with a presenting problem that has brought them in at this specific point in time and they are seeking resolution and relief from that situation. However, in addition to more short-term, symptom relief, many patients come hoping to attain a better understanding of themselves from the inside out — from their thoughts to their behaviors. In short, they are trying to increase their awareness and understanding of themselves in an attempt to improve the quality of their relationships and their lives.

I treat individuals and couples issues, relationship and sexual concerns, anxiety, trauma, stress management, women's issues, and career uncertainty, Kirsten has been trained in CBT, EMDR and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
You deserve a life that feels good. We know that even good relationships can get stuck in unhealthy patterns. Do you find that when you are trying to connect with your partner you end up in a cycle of communication that's not helpful or productive? Do you retreat and silence it until next time? There is always next time… Maybe this time they will understand…we become louder in hopes they see how hurt we are.The more we aren't seen and heard the more resentful we become. The explosions become more significant and the intimacy ceases, now you are just resentful roommates. It doesn't have to be this way.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
